If a player is soft after three or four years at A&M, the fault lies with Sumlin, not with TX HS coaches

Let out of state coaches come in and let High Schools know that playing the spread with no defense is a terrible way to run a team. It makes soft players.
I wish this would happen in Arkansas. I feel like we get some good skill players every few years but suffer in the other areas. I think the high school coaching in Arkansas is one of the main issues.

I was curious about Mond's percentage because I keep seeing people slam him for hit. I don't know the 16 stats because 247 only puts up 15 as far as I can see, but here's the 15 completion percentages for the top 25 DT QBs:
1. Tua (only five star on the list) Tagasomething 193 / 285; 67.7%; Alabama
2. Tate "AMD" Martell. 133/237; 56%; tOSU
3. Sam Ehrlinger. 241/391; 61.6% Fighting Hermanos
4. Kellen Mond. 102/182; 56%; Ags
5. Shawn Robinson. 98/221; 44.3% (and 11TD to 8 Int); TCU
6. Lowell Narcisse. [Stats not listed.]
7. N'Kosi Perry. 141/242; 58.2%; Miami
8. Avery Davis. 138/211; 65.4%; Notre Dame
Completion rates for DT QBs ranked 9-25? There's some points there, but I've lost interest in doing the work to complete this post.

I forgot the Camron Buckley was an Under Armour All American until I saw a tweet on @Gigemrecruiting
According to the poster Anthony Hines, Camron Buckley, Kellen Mond, Hez Jones, Jhamon Ausbon, and Tyree Johnson will all be playing in that game.

QB Roshauud Paul (A&M commit) is now 45-0 as a starter! Max Preps has his stats listed: 2011 Passing Yards 22 TDs and 3 Ints, 1993 Rushing Yards and 41 TDs. He also has an interception return and 2 kick returns for TDs.

No P5 school in the state finished with more than 6 wins, but A&M and we play in a tougher league than the Big 12.
It could be that A&M's ability to recruit OOS is actually helping this roster. Washington and Dodson were 2 of our best contributors at LB. Wilson was a great NB until his injury this year.
2 cents

I believe he is being recruited for offense.

it's interesting but I'm not sure it's very meaningful. Schemes, level of competition and teammates can all have huge swings on these things.
The ability to be coached up is what makes the difference. Some guys can for a variety of reasons and some just can't.
For instance, I have no idea what Manziel's HS comp pct was. But his mechanics in HS were chaotic at best. But he was able to fix that at A&M (with internal and external help) and he turned into an extremely accurate passer

Mond now a 5 star on rivals. #27 overall

I agree with you on all points accept Johnny becoming an extremely accurate passer.
Mike Evans had a HUGE catch radius that probably played into the illusion. We also played more 5WR so we often forced teams to line up a LB or there 5th best DB on a WR. A&M also had 3 rotations at WR and ran a HUNH, which tired out SEC defenses by the second half.
*BTW we have abandoned almost every elelment of that successful scheme after KK left.

Video a bit down talking about Mond, does mention his accuracy issues and says he can be streaky at times, but, says he is a great runner and scrambler.
I could see Mond being very similar to Brett Hundley is Mazzone's offense.
I found that Hundley threw for 61% his senior year in high school, during his 3 years playing for Mazzone he was 66%,66%, and 69% his last year.

He was incredibly accurate to all our receivers, and any matchup advantages created by going 5wr is negated by the absence of running threat. His scrambling ability obviously helped, but he was like 70% from the pocket his second year and I can't remember the official stat but I remember a tweet showing his vs the last 10 years of prolific QB's and he was at the top.

Manziel had a 69% comp pct at A&M and only had 3 games (out of 26) in which the individual game his pct was under 60.
For comparison, some other DT QBs:
Trevor Knight completed 52% this year.
Jalen Hurts completed 65% for Bama
Lamar Jackson completed 58% for Louisville
Pat Mahomes career is 63% for Tech (his best year was this year at 65%)
Jameis Winson completed 67 and 66% in his 2 years at FSU
But honestly I didn't think there'd be any dispute that Johnny was an accurate passer by anyone that actually watched him play

He was accurate and the summer workout with Whitfield made him even better in the pocket. But nobody can deny that his receivers also helped a lot. Mike Evans was a physical dude and as soon as the ball was snapped, he set the tone. I'm actually surprised he wasn't called more often for offensive interference.
Unfortunately, I don't see that much these days anymore

I watched him in college and benefitted from scheme and Mike Evans. He was a 51% passer in limited action with the Browns in 2014 and got it up to 57% in 2015.

Apparently, a couple A&M commits got bumped by Rivals, but the site is down for updates. Kellen Mond was bumped to a 5* QB by Rivals and is now their #1 Dual Threat QB. Tyree Johnson apparently also got a bump to 4*.
