Also, if we really wanted another OT, why didn't we push for Weathersby?

I dunno but I have two guesses - the first is that we like this kid enough to potentially take him without regard to need.

and end up with a filler player like Wilson. We're very fortunate that Watts looks like a gem

Think Wilson will start over Watts next year tbh. And I like Watts an awful lot. But I'm not sure how you can watch Wilson play the last couple of games as a true fish and call him filler (he started over Matthews in the bowl game fyi)

I think Weathersby is one of the most over ranked players in the 2015 recruiting class.

I like them both a lot too. I think those 2 and Evans will be the 3 see a large majority of all PT at S. I could also see Watts being a hell of a nickle.

on that note, too many people just go back to recruiting rankings as to how good players are. LSU under Chavis has been the epitome of great secondary and they have consistently taken under the radar guys that turned out great.

Jalen Collins just declared for the draft after 3 years at LSU. Jalen Mills wasn't even ranked in the top 100 players.....in Texas. He's been a 3-year starter for them.

It was the play by play and color guy that day. They gushed over how big of a blow losing Matthews was early on in that game not even to mention that he didn't even get to start his last game of his career.

I think Armani Watts future lies at cornerback, anyway. He played safety because he's very good at anticipating where the ball is going to be. Very quick and decisive about it which is what a natural free safety is supposed to be about. But he's undersized for it. Wilson is cut from the same cloth, but he's bigger and its his natural position to begin with. But I agree.... It's probably going to be Wilson and Justin Evans back there with cornerback to be determined. Hopefully we get Justin Martin and our 2 corners will be him and Nick Harvey or Watts. Would be a pretty efficient secondary if I may say so.

If he can learn to get off blocks and tackle, sure. Corner is the one position on the defense that both slots are up in the air probably going into spring.

Is it a secret you can eventually share?

Um, Brice said that Awolope is not coming in this weekend. Miscommunication between the parties. Said it's Helms or bust. This is strange.

I really don't. He'd have been a fine off-man corner but Chavis likes to press and I don't think it's a very good fit for him. His best attributes are his change of direction, first step explosiveness, and reading the game. Playing press man doesn't really take advantage of that at all and I think he'd suffer.

I'm with 1906. I think he'll be a safety/nickel. Chavis like to play 5 and sometimes 6 DBs on the field at a time. We need the two on the outside prepped to play man. For next year it's Harris and ??? but we need guys to develop for the following year. Elam can be one. We need at least 1 more in this class, preferably two.

My biggest problem right now with our DBs is that quite a few probably best fit as a nickel (Harvey, Ellis, Sezer, Watts, DCS). I think Nickel is a hugely important position but we need guys that can man up the Sammie Coates of the world. Our DB recruiting in 12/13 showed a completely fundamental misunderstanding of what sorts of DBs could succeed in the SEC. I could write a treatise on it but suffice to say the lack of SEC experience on our initial defensive staff set us back a few years (and I'd say the same about our WR recruiting at times)

Don't worry we bout to land Boyd & Hill to go along with Elam. At least 1 of them will be the lockdown corner we've been dying to have.

I have high hopes for Elam because of how projectable his frame is. Hopefully a new scheme and coordinator on defense can bring some of our DBs we've recruited the last couple years out of the woodwork, even just as a bridge for this year and next. Guys like Ellis, Sezer, Garner etc I often forget are on the team sometimes

Between Wilson Watts Evans and the HS guys we are adding in this class I feel pretty confident in the safety position going forward

did he explain that further? Miscommunication seems odd. Awolope thought he was invited and he's not?

Although I have to say I thought it was really odd earlier when I visited his twitter page and not one of our coaches is following him. I just chalked it up to wtf do I know
