From Hamm:
Guesses, guys? People think Hasty, Dauphine, or Ware.

Kevin Sumlin will make a key in-home visit with a top running back target later this week. We’ve been asked to keep the name under wraps for right now but it’s a familiar prospect who’s considering visiting the Aggies officially at the end of the month.

He said we screwed up on several fronts in this cycle, so I'm sure he will agree with you. I certainly do. It is what it is at this point though and nothing can change it, just have to hope we can fill the void at CB and possibly RB. I would rather not take a fringe RB this cycle though if we can land a couple big ones next year.

the 247 board thinks its hasty

Hasty is a Jay Bradford type of back. Weren't we only taking one of Hasty or Bradford - whoever committed first?
I'd be more excited about a Warren type.

If we don't get Kris Boyd, 100% of the blame is on Sumlin. We could have had him a year ago after Junior Day.

If we don't get any of Boyd / Hill / Martin, blame should be on Sumlin. 1/3 would be good - not ideal, but good. Who knows... maybe staff can pull a miracle and flip Sheffield

Well we don't know anything, and Sumlin hit the DC hire out of the park, so maybe we should hold off on the pre-meditative melt before we say sumlin "fricked up". It's bizzare hearing that being said.

no one is melting. I even said we are still ending up with an absolute awesome class. but that doesn't mean we cant talk about just some real bizarre wiffs our staff had this cycle when they clearly are top notch recruiters

The DC hire and the staff's current run at guys like Hill, Boyd, Warren, and Soso after ignoring them for months are almost mutually exclusive things. Like I stated before:
quote:
I understand that, but Sumlin - in all of his wisdom and experience - should know that putting all of your eggs in one basket is just silly. Sheffield clearly didn't even care about being the "only CB" since Bama has a million of those.
And that still doesn't excuse our RB recruiting. We JUST offered Warren and stopped recruiting Soso until recently.
And, like WCA said, no one is melting. I'm just frustrated that Warren only received an offer 2-3 weeks from NSD and coaches are doing an in-home with Hill 2 weeks before NSD when they ignored him for months. Just too much ground to make up.

I think we definitely misjudged Sheffield. It happens, I don't expect our staff to be perfect. It's unfortunate we didn't have a backup plan set up.
The RB situation I understand more and am less worried about. We had Anderson, an awesome prospect, committed along with Bradford and we shut our RB recruiting down it seems like to not spook the commits. Anderson decommitted and the timing combined with not having a stellar run game this year left us with few options.
I don't blame them for that honestly, it was just unfortunate timing. Maybe we could have started back in on Warren earlier but who knows how much of a difference it would have made. We are fine this year with the backs we have plus Bradford so we just really need to lock up two stellar backs next year who can contribute right away if we don't add anyone to this class. I don't want to waste a scholarship on a guy who is a fringe prospect

Anderson decommitted in April, months before the season even started. There's really no excuse.

Pretty sure we were still pursuing Jamabo heavily after that for a while. I don't know, I don't get all the people upset about the RB thing. None of the RBs left really impress me that much, even Jamabo ran extremely upright and I didn't think fit our offense that well. I think we will be perfectly fine with White, Bradford and then maybe Whaley plus one more on the roster in 2016

That picture makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy because Sumlin is there, gig'em, there's a chance. Sad because it took us this long to seriously get involved with Hill.
But, I've already adamantly expressed my frustrations, so we'll just stick to happy

Hill started off as one of A&M's top corner prospects but during the fall it appeared the SEC west program started to lose interest. The Top247 prospect said he asked some tough questions to the staff about their lack of persistence.
"I asked them what their plans were for me and why I haven't heard from my position coach," he said. "They were just saying that opportunities and situations change and in my case it changed for the better."

We've been told the Rockwall RB has cancelled his official visit to Texas Tech this weekend and will instead be in College Station. We haven't confirmed that with Warren but it's from a very good source. We know Tech coaches plan to be at his school later this week to keep him from going to A&M this weekend instead. We'll keep you guys updated.
