It means he will be in Allen and Murray's face for the next 3 years around Thanksgiving

If Bedford leaves and he sticks with UT then I think it's obvious he was looking for excuses to commit to UT just to appease his family

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on the announcement
Maybe a touch too early on that last question

From Hamm: "I asked him about Bedford possibly leaving and he said if that happens he'll be happy for him, and that he's got to do what's best for him but added he's committed to the school, not the coaches.
Now I'm really confused"

His mom was never going to be ok with him at A&M.

No worries CC. They are just going to be sensitive today so you are going to have to wade thru the tears
I think it definitely makes things interesting for Mack. If he makes the trip to BR I'd be very wary. Posters will overreact to Malik and say the sky is falling but I think at the end of the day, Mack will stick.
For other recruiting news, not sure on Bussey later but that's a coin toss between us and UT. He'd be 23. We can go to 30 iirc
23. Bussey (or another RB)
24. Moore
25. Sheffield (or another CB)
26. Lodge
27. Merritt
That leaves us 3 that aren't necessarily reserved for someone. So while this news is bad, it may have opened up a spot for someone like Weathersby or Boyd which isn't bad consolation.

I think the decision has more to do with where his family wanted him and Strong's track record on defense vs Sumlin's. I'm sure he feels confident UT would make a strong replacement hire for Bedford at DC because of Strong's pedigree as a defensive coach.

I know DeBerry is a long shot and he will probably pick OU today, but still hoping Sumlin can flip him, especially now that we've lost Malik.

More from Hamm:
"Jefferson's dad pulled me aside before I left and said A&M was leading the whole way. Apparently the convo with Sumlin on Wednesday night did not go well at all. Malik didn't even talk with Sumlin last night. He said he didn't want to because he knew he wouldn't get the answers he wanted"

wouldn't give us much shot today. But he's not an EE and has stated he will continue to entertain coaches after announcing. He's got a month and a half so we'll have time to make a DC hire and then try to flip him.
Also, people ignore it, but whoever the DC hire is likely has guys they will want and have been recruiting. There are certain rules of the road like you don't recruit guys that are committed to your former school, but a guy that is open or committed to another school is fair game. So there are likely guys that aren't even really on our radar right now that will end up in our class.

That's what I mean by Sumlin trying to flip him. Today, it's OU. A good DC hire + Sumlin in-home could mean a flip. Here's to hoping.

I hope it's OU. If it's Bama it may be exponentially harder

Yeah it's pretty obvious he wanted to know who we would be hiring. If there was a reason it had to be kept quiet then I don't blame Sumlin for doing so, but if it's just a cluster of a search and we don't know who the hire is yet then it's on him

What the hell did he say on Wednesday? Dude is supposed to be one of the best closers in the game.

What's the deal with Sapp? Why haven't we offered him yet? He's a four star; is he just not as good as his ranking?
Posted on 12/19/14 at 8:54 am to Asian Sensation
I think it has more to do with Malik wanting to know who his DC will be and Sumlin telling him he can't know yet. You know what its like when you don't get your way. Its a big deal for Malik. It should be. He needs to know that he's going to play for a good DC who can give A&M a shot to win big and develop him into a NFL player.
