He doesn't look like he's going all the way down.

But still impressive.

The fact that Im expected to believe that Daylon Mack is 16 years old is an insult to my intelligence.

27. (83) QB Jarrett Stidham (Stephenville HS)
30. (49) CB Kris Boyd (Gilmer HS)
31. (7) RB Sotonye Jamabo (Plano West Senior HS)
35. (36) WR Christian Kirk (Scottsdale, AZ)
54. (??) S Deionte Thompson (West Orange-Stark HS) Bama commit

Our other commit that has not ever been ranked in the top 100 is Bradford who now sits at 140.

interesting little somethin somethin on Justin Hilliard

quote:

One guy who we first mentioned as an Aggie target back in the early fall is 5-star LB from Ohio Justin Hilliard. Last night the All-American spoke with A&M linebackers coach Mark Hagen. They actually have a longstanding relationship going back to Hagen’s days at Indiana and speak more frequently than what’s been publicized. Actually, Hagen made a school visit to see Hilliard at the end of the contact period. The 6-2, 225-pounder may visit Florida this weekend but isn’t for certain just yet about those plans. He wants to visit College Station this spring or early summer but if he’s unable to make the trek from Cincinnati he will use one of his five official visits to A&M.

yeah, they've only had 2 iterations so far and he was #2 both times. No one else has him that high but he's a 5-star on 3 of 4 right now

He's #20 on Rivals
43 on ESPN
23 on 247

he went to the first OU JR Day. Hopefully we can get him down too. Hagen needs to show something soon. I thought he'd be able to get in on some of the midwest guys but nary a one gave us a sniff in the '14 class.

yea hes been a composite 5 star for a while, but normally people who are in the high teens of the composite rankings generally aren't ranked as high as 2 and stay there.

every time a new ranking is out, daylon seems to drop

this is a '14 class story but think it's more recruiting in general. This is an article written by Demetrius Knox about recruiting. He's obviously a pretty smart guy.

LINK
quote:

That got me thinking about my own recruitment. "Do all these coaches lie? Are they are only in it for the money and they don't care about the guys they offer?" Because of this, I started to have my own second thoughts about Ohio State. All these questions came to my head like, "do they even like me as a player? Do they even care about me as a person?"

Over the past two years or so, I had managed to build a great relationship with the Ohio State coaching staff, but after the incident happened to Daniel, who is basically a brother to me, I just felt a shield go up around me, because I didn't want to put all my trust in to a group of men that would one day let me down. I tell you people this isn't easy stuff for a grown man to handle, let alone a high school kid being told this, that and the other thing by every coach in the country every single day. I know there's mixed emotions about recruiting and from the people who follow it, some who think that we (recruits) bring this attention on ourselves and that if we would just "stop playing games," that things would be easier, but we're making the biggest decisions of our lives and it's hard to even have a remotely normal life with college coaches and recruiting analysts and writers calling, texting, direct messaging on Twitter, messaging on Facebook every 15 minutes.

There's also a lot of material for some recruiters to use against Charlie Strong who Knox calls out specifically. I know Patterson and Briles and a few on their staffs are known as seriously negative recruiters. This excerpt is the kind of thing they are going to hand to mom and dad on in-homes. It's a little one-sided but it may well hit home.
quote:

Some of you may know that when coach Strong left Louisville and went to Texas, Daniel Gresham had his offer pulled with the new coaching staff at Louisville. That really hurt me because Coach Strong promised Daniel that he wasn't going anywhere and even if he did, he promised that Daniel would be able to come with him. Once (Strong) left like he said he wouldn't, he did not take Daniel with him and that threw me into a bit of a funk with recruiting and coaches everywhere.

Jefferson? SAM. But he's such a freak he could play anywhere tbh. He's got it all - size, athleticism, instincts, and intelligence.

Daylon's problem is that he doesn't face the toughest competition. There are some elite players in ETX but the schools are smaller so overall the team skill level isn't that great. Also, he's only 6' even and they want to ding him for that. It's a legitimate question because long term it will always be held against him. There aren't many NFL DTs that are that short.

Projecting how a guy will transition to the next level is hard and these things leave questions. I think he's going to have to show out at some camps to be a guaranteed 5*.
