I'm glad he took the high road. I feel for Strong though, he doesn't have any talent lined up and the expectations from everyone at Texas are damn near impossible for him to meet unless he gets some decent players in there quickly.

Strong has got to be on a ridiculously short leash.
I like him, but that's a tough situation for him to be in.

There's no question Strong is up against it. They took a really small class last year and the quality of it was the worst in a decade. This year's quality is even worse but they need bodies, especially since he's probably going to run off 5-10 guys (basically all new coaches do). I expect he'll have pretty JUCO heavy classes the next few years to fill in gaps.
And I understand he was a late hire and his staff's ties are mostly to guys committed or recruited by Louisville. But that doesn't change the questionable ethical behavior. Sumlin told each one of his UH recruits (almost all TX kids) he would not recruit them to A&M so don't bother contacting him. That's how these situations should be handled imo
Sumlin added 4 recruits to the '12 class and held the rest of the scholarships for '13 despite being desperate for numbers (the '12 season A&M had less than 70 scholarship players)
- Ed Pope (flipped from TCU)
- Sabian Holmes (flipped from Baylor)
- Edmund Ray (flipped from Mizzou)
- Derel Walker (JUCO with no previous ties to UH)

What Franklin is doing at Penn State is beyond unethical, it's just downright shitty. I can't imagine doing that to a previous place of employment. He has burned so many bridges that he is now on an island, and that island was already sinking before he got there.

Didn't Yates and Ward do the samd with DSG?
Posted on 1/17/14 at 12:38 pm to CGSC Lobotomy
No. Yates specifically told DSG to stay committed to A&M. Ward...eh, that's why he was fired.

It's a big world, and it's easy to overlook stuff like this. It won't hurt recruiting but it certainly won't help James Franklin win any friends in the coaching community. And he's at a destination job so he probably doesn't care what ADs think of it (I wouldn't want to hire a dude that might do that to my program down the line).
But shite like that comes back to you in life imo. Few truly successful people have that cutting corner mentality. Many will angle shoot the way Butch Jones is, skirting the rules by finding loopholes. But I find that to be just the opposite trait. The guy that finds loopholes to exploit is probably outworking everyone else looking at every possibility while the guy that is cutting corners is probably looking for the easiest path from point A to point B.
IME, the angle shooter is far more likely to be successful long term.

What do y'all feel about Braden Smith the OT from Kansas? He is OVing Auburn right now and people are saying physically he is a freak. Quote "He has the biggest arms I've ever seen. Like bodybuilder big"

We would definitely take him. He would redshirt this season though.

Do y'all feel good about him or waiting for your OV ?

Not counting on Smith. Position of want, not need.

yeah, I'd second CGSC's comments. He's sort of quiet (he doesn't seem to speak to recruiting services) and no one really knows where things stand.
His sister attends TCU btw

I wouldn't ever get any info during visits tbh so not much to add really. This is our traditional big weekend going back to RC's days. It's the first weekend back at school and the weekend of SBSLC. Lot of commits in town together.
I wouldn't expect many (or any) commits over the weekend. For the most part, Sumlin is super low pressure. It's not his style to pressure commits because his opinion is that too often those don't stick and you're left with your dick in your hand on signing day. But given the calendar, I imagine the conversation would go something like:
"We want you. You are our first option. However, if you aren't sure and still want to visit other places, I understand. But we have to offer other people to fill the spot as it's a need position. Think it over. Be sure. But if by next Fri, you aren't, we're going to bring in other guys."
Some may consider that pressure but I just consider it being honest about the situation.
And WBS, 247 keeps a list of public visitors. According to them we have 13 recruits in town. We'll bring in a few over the last few weeks that the recruits don't want publicized though.

they are taking pics in Bright now
#15 Garrett - #6 Washington - #2 Cunningham
#42 Young - #20 McGraw
Btw, I was told the knock on Young was he was smallish for a Mike. He looks decent size here but it makes me wonder how small McGraw is
