Apparently Mack Brown is telling recruits today that he will be back in 2014. Not sure if he's delusional or this is actually true. Either way

Unless they get raped by Baylor I'd be surprised if they got rid of him. Objectively I think he deserves another year after how they rebounded. Not objectively- I hope he stays

here ya go WCA

quote:

According to a source in Newton, the football career of Newton four-star running back and Texas commitment Kevin Shorter is likely over after he sought a couple of opinions on a spinal injury he suffered in a game a little more than a month ago. Despite the medical diagnoses, the source said that Shorter's scholarship to Texas will be honored. Shorter would likely be placed on medical scholarship by Texas, which does not count against the 85-man limit for the Longhorns (it's a situation similar to what Matt Nader did several years ago). Another option is for Shorter to continue to recover from the injury and seek another doctor's opinion later. But, at this point, it appears that Shorter's football career is over and the Longhorns are beginning to make preparations to replace his spot in the recruiting class. This shows the benefit and value of making a decision prior to a recruit's senior season. Shorter's personal situation is not one where he'd be able to attend college without a scholarship. It's a sad deal but those close to him in Newton are said be extremely supportive of the situation. (Burton)

This sounds like it will be a lot like the Ced Collins situation for us. Hope the kid makes use of the scholarship and gets a degree

I will say this is one thing that texas and mack brown do that I really like. They stand by their recruits if they offer a scholarship and something medical happens to them.

But they lie to and trapdoor others.

Case in point: Tevin Mims (USF pass rusher) was trapdoored by Mack Brown and told he could not transfer to another Texas school or another Big 12 school.

Had Mims committed to us, he likely would have been a 2-3 year starter.

I can't disagree with you on that part.

I'm just saying that they stand by their medical issues and give the kids the opportunity at the education that they promised.

Mack really is a good dude. If you ever meet him, you'll come away liking him. There's a reason a guy that can't coach a lick is a head coach at a major college program.

Figured I'd post the little I have on Joshua Reynolds since I can't get my man on the phone. Holidays and all but I was too slow getting this out so all the other sites beat us to it and prob all of this is out there

To start, we're actually pretty ugly on the WR depth chart. We'd like 12-14 and here's what we have as of now for 2014.

2014 WRs

SR (1) - Malcome Kennedy
JR (1) - Sabian Holmes
SO (4) - Edward Pope, Ja'Quay Williams, LaQuvionte Gonzalez, Jeremy Tabuyo
RFR (3) - Kyrion Parker, Sebastian Larue, Ricky Seals-Jones
FR (1) - Jamal Jones

One reason we are struggling recruiting here is we have been seriously negatively recruited based on our class from last year. But we only have 10 and it's just too few. Enter TJC's Joshua Reynolds (he doesn't even have a '14 Rivals profile yet). This is the guy our AggyArk™ ETX correspondent (CC) has been looking into for us.

Reynolds played both ways in HS, was a special teams standout (he even kicked ) and also was a track star (placed 6th in state in 110m Hurdles). He never got a sniff from anyone bc of grades. However he took the test again late and is now a full qualifier. What that means is that after one semester of JUCO he is free to transfer in with 4 to play 3. So we're looking at him coming in in January which will give us a 4th outside WR without having to move anyone (we don't have any really).

We do still expect Nacho and we're not giving up on anyone else. But Reynolds can come in now and if he falls back on the depth chart when others arrive, he can still redshirt. He's very talented and he's a perfect fit for what we need right now. Don't be put off by his recruit grade, when MD brought him to the coaches they liked him a lot.

What HS did Reynolds play at? It lists his hometown as SA.

What do you think the depth chart at WR looks like assuming Kennedy is back?

Z- Kennedy
Y- Quiv
H- Holmes
X- RSJ?

Or maybe Kennedy stays inside? I dunno. I am hoping Larue or Parker will really step up.

I think Reynolds is an X. From the limited film he reminds me a lot of Walker honestly. Tall with good burst and great ups.

I posted this in another thread a while back that got buried. I don't really see any change to it at the moment.
quote:

(Z) - this is where Evans plays. The skill set is generally the guy that runs good routes and gets open a lot because it's the front side of the play so often. This is what Michael Crabtree played at Tech and Quinton Patton at La Tech so you can see lots of different kinds of receivers can fit. My understanding is Kyrion Parker will probably take over this position (he's redshirting). Jaquay ran some here Sat. Pope has in the past. I don't think either of those guys is polished enough. You might see Kennedy or RSJ here some next year too imo.

(Y) - this is where Kennedy plays (and Swope before him). With most QBs, this is the high catch position. Manziel likes longer throws though but it's generally the "glamour" position in this offense. Quickness and an ability to turn on a dime are primary qualities. Think Wes Welker. Kennedy isn't a perfect fit here but unless we move him to Z, it's his job. RSJ is interesting and a variation from things in the past. His size makes it a matchup nightmare. Long term I think Tabuyo may be a great fit as may Jeffrey.

(H) - the other slot where Holmes plays. This is the motion guy. Jet sweeps like the WVU offense. We run this now but with very limited effectiveness. It's why Quiv is here. Outside of that, this position runs many short hard cut patterns so like the Y, you want a shifty guy. But they also run a lot of seem routes to pull safeties so they need to be fast. Very fast preferably. I think you'll continue to see Holmes and Quiv here mostly next year. I think with a new QB, both inside WRs will get a lot more work. Johnny just likes the outside throws better. But with the speed we have here, getting these guys the ball in space more can create explosive plays

(X) - Walker's spot. This position runs more deep patterns than the Z. One of the primaries is the fade as if he can beat a corner, he's often in single coverage because defenses rotate to the front side. This guy needs to get off press coverage well because it's his job to be so difficult to defend that the safeties cannot shade away from him. I think Pope and Jaquay are good fits really as they are both big enough to force a bigger corner out there. We need one or the other to really step forward though. I actually think RSJ could play here with great effectiveness if we leave Kennedy at Y

Thanks. I think Holmes could see a lot of looks inside if Hill is the QB because of the high school connection. I'm a little worried about who we have that will challenge secondaries down the field. A lot that will fall on RSJ it seems

TMC looks like Kenny Iloka wants to go to Boise St like his brother but doesn't hold and offer currently.

interesting. Not sure if you know but Yates (our DB coach) came from Boise so he probably recruited his brother.

eta, looked his bro up: Geoge Iloka. Yep, he definitely played his whole career under Yates as he graduated in 2011.
