hi there :boomboomwashington:

I may have already posted this Myles Garrett Star-Telegram video a while back but after his commitment it's worth watching again. Great athletic family

Free article from 247 with an interview with Myles Garrett's coach Bob Wager

some select quotes and realize just two years ago Devonte Fields came out of Martin so it isn't like he hasn't had some good ones
quote:

When you start the break down the numbers — 36-inch vertical jump, 4.57 40-yard dash, he's over 400 on the bench, he's power cleans 385 — those are just phenomenal weight room numbers, but then has the ability to take that explosiveness and transfer it onto the field. We haven't had one like him. Having said that, we've had different ones that were great, but the combination of athleticism, explosiveness, the motor, all those things, Myles Garrett is in a league of his own.

quote:

The answer for me will always be work ethic, and [Garrett] has it. He has tremendous drive. He's an unselfish player. He's blocked five kicks in six games, which that tells you a lot about what type of player he is and how he feels about whatever role he has on the team. There's a time to take plays off, and a lot of guys do it on special teams. Ours don't, and Myles Garrett does not, and that elevates the performance of everybody around him. It's difficult for me to make a comparison with an 18-year-old or a 17-year-old and a 21-year-old [Clowney], I don't know, but I know [A&M's] getting a great one. We're awful proud of him and we're thrilled to have him at A&M.

Tarp over at Rivals has a free article breaking down Cunningham. And another from ESPN.

One thing neither mentions however is I believe Qualen entered school a year early so he's a year younger than everyone else (interestingly enough, the guy he gets compared to a lot is Damontre who also entered school a year early). He's still got room to grow and mature. So I disagree with his assumption that Cunningham is a pure WDE. He measured 6'3" over the summer at the Rivals camp and his dad is 6'6"/6'7" so I think it's possible Qualen can still grow into an SDE role.

And here's 247's article as well as ESPN's Sam Khan's on his commitment with some quotes from him.
quote:

"Coach Price has always been real since day one," Qualen said. "He was a roommate of my pops back in college. Coach Price and I became really, really cool."
quote:

"It's definitely a factor [other DEs in the class], but I'm confident in my abilities," Cunningham said. "I know the players that are going to be on the field are going to be the best players. I just have to step up and compete, and at the end of the day, that's all it's about."

On another note, I posted this before the season but figured I'd point it out in this thread. Rivals 4*+ by class for our defense
quote:

2009 (what would be rs-srs) - 2 (JUCO Judie, J-Stew)
2010 - 2 (JUCO Mathis, Robinson)
2011 - 2 (Matthews, Raven)
2012 - 2 (Harris, Richmond)
2013 - 7 (Golden, Manning, Walker, Hall, Miles, Ellis, Garner)

Outside of our freshman class, we had 4 on the roster coming into the season.
quote:

DL
SR - 0
JR - 1 (Robinson)
SO - 0
FR - 4 (Golden, Manning, Walker, Hall)

LB
SR - 0
JR - 0
SO - 0
FR - 0

DB
SR - 0
JR - 2 (Matthews, Raven)
SO - 1 (Harris)
FR - 3 (Miles, Ellis, Garner)

2014 (to date) 7 - (Cunningham, Garrett, Harvey, Scott, DSG, Washington, Watts)

The only ones in this class not 4* are LB Josh Walker, DE Jarrett Johnson and CB Ced Collins (who was downgraded bc of the injury). All 3 are 5.7's which is the highest 3*.

Walker is a 4 star on 24/7 and ESPN (as a RB)

JUCO OT Jermaine Eluemunor has committed. He's from England and talks funny, mate.

This kid is an absolute stud but a word of caution - this is his 3rd commitment (UCLA, then Arky) so I'm not sure how solid he really is.

@TheMainShow_ I have decided to flip my commitment to the Aggies for more than one reason it felt like home and I like where the program is headed....

@TheMainShow_ I want to thank all the coaches at Arkansas for their time and especially the fans you guys are awesome I hope nothing but the best for Ark

We've brought in some serious talent in the last few weeks. Hats off to Sumlin and staff as usual.
