It is starting to get impressive. Butch has been fired five times and yet he is about to walk on that field Saturday and lead these VOLS to an L against the mighty Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles.

Never seen an individual with this much resiliency.

Have y’all ever fired a coach mid season? Maybe they just don’t want to set that precedent or just don’t have a trustworthy option for interim.

I feel pretty confident our AD will swiftly show Sumlin the door after the season is over, and y’all are definitely less genteel about expressing displeasure than Aggies are.

Fulmer was fired around the end of October iirc and Dooley was fired with one game left

Yes. HoF coach Philip Fulmer. He's in a new position at UT now but it's known that he advised Currie based upon how he was treated to tread a bit more lightly.

I don't see how fulmer got a raw deal at least in how they handled his firing

They announced he wouldn't remain the coach but allowed him to coach the only game remaining against Vandy

Thankfully we won and he got the sendoff he deserved, players carried him off the field

Dooley was also fired with one game remaining but not allowed to coach it

He had just won the East (the dominant division) the year prior and yes, we handled it poorly.

He won the East by pure luck. Tennessee was so damn lucky to beat South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky.
