Especially in a conference like the SEC.
OU has been the best in the conference at this all year & arguably the reason they control this game:
1. Mizz gets a FG blocked
2. Mizz punts the ball 35 yds
3. OU’s kicker can make it from the GD 50
I will give Venables credit here, it has made the difference between wins & losses for them this year + haven’t seen anyone this on top of it in the conference since the (good) Les Miles years at LSU.

They are ranked #1 in the SEC and #3 in the country for special teams in FEI.
It definitely made a difference in the Alabama game, as Alabama is #101.

So many coaches are still coaching basketball on grass which is not working beyond beating really shitty teams.
Great defenses and clock controlling offenses will win championships every time.
Throw in great special teams with a very good defense and you will do well every time.

I agree with everything except one caveat. You need an offense that CAN control clock — but can go exploit a defense or run the 2m drill when the need arises. Example: A&M
You don’t want an offense BUILT to control clock. Example: Mizzou.
Many coaches turn to “ball control” as a way to mitigate plain old shitty offense. You have to be able to consistently threaten stretching the field, otherwise you’re just one dimensional — not a strategic genius.

I wouldn't know, as ours suck.

What I said was not 100% exclusive.

I was more chiming in / adding on than disagreeing.
