Cool to see homewood with a big time recruit for a change. Seems like they send the least amount of kids to college for football out of all the metro Birmingham high schools (Hoover, Spain Park, Mtn Brook, Vestavia)
Last two big time recruits outa Homewood didn't do shite: Robert Davis and Tim Hawthorn.

And that OL that signed with Bama.... Ross. He was a bust
The RB at Nebraska is pretty good, though.

I am still shocked the prior staff did not offer him. He would have committed on the spot and dominated nearly every camp he decided to compete in back during his recruitment.

Has he done anything besides punt/kick return? That's all I've seen him do.

quote:Yes, but in hindsight, we probably should have put more pressure on Ameer Abdullah instead of Mike Blakely. It really was not a hard call back then, as we all considered Blakely to be a better prospect, but one turned out to be a rising player while the other is doing nothing. We would not have had to take Blakely as a transfer and delayed the development of another running back, either.

Either way, glad to see Ameer Abdullah doing so well.

How did I forget about Ameer, he was a bad arse. Watched him put 7 TDs up on a Spain park defense that had 9 kids sign scholarships.
He was a loss for Auburn guys, he is a stud

You kind of suck at this posting thing.
FYI though, you have to be nice to Bama fans tomorrow . . .

Ameer Abdullah rushed for over 1100 yards last year even though he split time with Burkhead. He is being touted as one of the top backs in the Big10 this year.
Probably the two most productive players to come out of Homewood would be Chris Gray and Evan Mathis.
Gray started as TE and T at Auburn and went on to start almost 200 games in 15-16 years in the NFL, including a Super Bowl with the Seahawks. He holds some records for consecutive starts I believe. He would have played longer had he not had a back injury that cut his career short. I don't think he made the Pro Bowl, but should have.
Mathis started 4 years at Alabama and is currently still playing for the Eagles - around 10 years in the league or so, and when he is not taking a leak on IRS buildings he is one of the best lineman in the NFL - he should have made the Pro Bowl last year, but he plays for the Eagles.

I hate not taking in-state Auburn fans. I wish we had gotten him and Mason.
