Yet Auburn, Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M finished with higher rated classes in 2014, per 247Sports. And Tennessee is currently 12th in 2015, behind Auburn, Alabama, Texas A&M, South Carolina, LSU, Georgia and Mississippi State.

Butch Jones is hardly the 2nd best recruiter in the SEC.

A little tougher to recruit when you haven't won more than 7 games in a season in seven years.

The difference in classes 5-8 are minimal and purely subjective.

Another thing is that Butch is extremely hands on. Even more so than Kiffin and Fulmer who were great, great head coach recruiters. Any high profile guys are handled by Butch and Butch alone.

His staff is nothing special outside of Thig either (on the recruiting side). They are pretty much a 2 man operation. Azzanni and Elder are decent and the rest are pretty mediocre.

Torrance Gibson tells me he will fly back home tomorrow morning. He will return to Tennessee in eight days on June 21 for "Orange Carpet" weekend, which is for elite Tennessee targets.

He told me that is the only visit he has set up for this summer.

Torrance Gibson told me Tennessee is his new leader. The rest of his top seven in order is: Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Central Florida, Miami (Fla.) and Ohio State. He told me there is a "big, big gap" between Tennessee and Auburn.

Butch might be the 2nd best recruiting head coach in the sec now that franklin is gone... he's a better salesman than Gus IMO. Muschamp is another very strong recruiting HC.... as is freeze.

Really, outside of saban, it doesn't equal actual wins on the football field.... Boom will be fire shortly, butch is in line for another losing season, freeze has shown promise but has a ways to go... same could be said for franklin, who feasted on SECE cellar teams and a charmin soft OOC.

there is a very good chance ohio state may have taken themselves out of this race.

Nah, at Florida you don't even have to try. you'll have top 5, top 10 class by default.

Recruiting is more than half the battle in college so Butch is doing a fine job in that aspect. Whether he can coach em up is a different story.

That is fine. Now that we have a legit QB in Dormady, there is no negative to landing Gibson.

FL98. I assume they came from 247/Rivals/Scout. Let me check.

Interdasting. Take Gibson and Jennings... make 1 a QB and the other an elite player at WR or DB.

Let's wait until NSD before holding this 2015 class against him. Will be a monster class imo.

Fulmer was widely regarded as one of the best head coach recruiters in the modern era. From what I've seen Butch is right there with him.

As I said, I don't think his staff is anything special but he is elite himself as a recruiter. Handles almost all elite players personally. I don't think it's a laughable statement.

It is considering all the top recruiters in the SEC. He wouldn't have even finished as high as he did last year had UT not signed 34 players. Going off of quality of players he finished 8th in the conference.
