“Commits to Bama, Georgia and Texas A&M among the nation's top 100 recruits: 31. (It includes 14 of the nation's top 50)
The rest of college football: 40.
Current undecided prospects predicted to 'Bama, UGA or A&M: 13.
Could see 44 of the nation's top 100 at those 3 schools.”

Its an impressive haul.
My question is why, with all the resources and being the only sec school from texas, has A&M done so we'll recruiting only to get 8 wins? What's the missing piece

People think recruiting is the only thing that matters because Saban has had so much success and brought in so many number 1 classes, and recruiting will translate to wins up to a point.
Ohio St I think is a great comparable to Alabama here because they don't directly compete with each other on the field for a playoff spot and both recruit at a similar level. Bama has been in the playoff almost every year, Ohio St is in the hunt every year and they make it maybe every other year or so. Thats why when people say "Georgia or A&M or whoever else is hot whenever Saban retires is going to take over"" are mistaken IMO.
Ohio St is Bama North (in a sense) and should be doing the same thing Bama does in the SEC in theory if recruiting is all that matters, but they didn't have Saban with Meyer and they don't now with Day.

Because they play in the weak arse Big 10 and play absolutely no one most years plus they don't have to go through Bama to win their conference. It's the same as Clemson. Football will trend back to being more spread out with championships once Saban retires and both AM and UGA will benefit from it.

Big 10 > SEC East but sure

I do agree that once he retires things will change. Unless something major happens though and especially with expansion UA will still be in the hunt every year. Just not the odds on favorite year in year out. UGA seems to be doing well currently with Saban at the helm and still has a chance to win it this year. The difference though with Saban has been sustainability. We have yet to see anyone in the game be able to sustain a program with so much success.
So the question becomes do other programs have their moment/run like Clemson just did. UGA has always been right there just not able to get over the hump but Smart has taken the program to a new level and seems to be in for a long run. I do not see any other program in the SEC positioned to do so at this point.

I don't see this happening with the current staff (or really at all because its risky), but if he had a potential successor on staff I could see him going against the grain and doing something wild like announcing his retirement and replacement like years beforehand and making it a recruiting thing. #LastRide23 lol, come play in Saban's last 4 year class. Kids know they get Saban for however long, then its the other guy, and maybe Saban is around the program or something still for a while.
Realistically I think he probably hangs it up after another championship or two. But the dude loves what he does and seems to be driven by it, and people like that often don't last long after they stop.

Yeah who in their right mind would voluntarily go to the best college town with the most beautiful women, the best music scene, and great climate.

Well they just voluntarily started coming at a much higher rate all of a sudden once Kirby got there

Cool. I guess it's a good thing we never have to play any SEC West teams or have to play in a championship game against a top 5 team every year unlike OSU who generally doesn't play a ranked team until mid November every year.

Who gives a shite. Any SEC team still has to play Bama most years to make the playoffs. Something OSU doesn't have to do.

well that's just not true. Richt had good classes

Kirby got all the staff (analysts etc) and facilities (indoor practice facility etc) that Richt never had. Add in that he hires people who are relentless recruiters and it isn’t hard to understand how we went from Top 10 classes to Top 4.
