They must think he's leaning towards LSU

Travon Walker belongs in the top 10, I'm not knocking Alfano or Leal but they do not have the upside of Walker.

He's a better athlete than both for one and he's still pretty raw. If you saw the All American game Walker by far was the most dominant D-lineman, I think UGA has the next Julius Peppers in Walker. The sky is the limit for the young man.

Better athlete than Alfano?

Try again.

ETA: Hell, I'll even do the work for you:

Yea I don't really buy these 40 times from these various camps, but great Alfano is a smidge faster. You obviously don't know about Walker as a basketball player, I guarantee you he has a higher vert than Alfano. Like i stated before im not knocking Antonio at all, he's actually more polished than Walker is presently. Assuming both stay healthy don't be surprised if Walker comes off the board 1st in the 2022 draft, I believe in 247's own rankings they currently have Travon as the 5th best prospect in the land so they see the upside also.

It's not just the 40 times, Alfano has a 10 athleticism whereas Walker's is a 9 in their scouting profile.

Last I checked, these were football rankings, not basketball. Good for Walker being decent at a sport he isn't going to play in college.

You'd be wrong.

JC Shurburtt, one of the 247 guys who actually has a say in their rankings, has Alfano #1 overall. Walker won't be ahead of him when they release their final Top247 next week.

Saying Alfano is better than Walker isn't a knock on Walker. Alfano is just that good.

ETA: FWIW, ESPN has Alfano ranked #28 overall and Walker at #46.

As long you bammers say so, shite on it. If the tables were turned and Alfano was committed to UGA and Walker to Bama it would be a different story for sure, I can understand why you guys pulled off Clay Webb for Dalcort who is at least 5X the prospect Webb could ever dream of. Thanks for the leftovers and telling Nakobe Dean you simply did not have the room in your class to take on his overrated arse.

Alfano is the best DL in this class and it isn’t particularly close.

Walker has a ton of potential, and I think he will be a load in college, but he has kept his weight down, played multiple spots, and even ran at linebacker during his HS career.

As far as best DL talent CURRENTLY displayed on film, it’s hands down Alfano. Kid is a freaking animal.

JMO, but Alfano is the best DL in the class. Walker has incredible upside, but he’s not the better player right now. Leal is fantastic as well.

You should watch tape on Leal. Dude went to zero camps. He just didn't play the game. But he went to the All-American game and wrecked shop, winning the top overall performer regardless of position on multiple days. And his tape is filthy. I've not seen Alfano, so I can't say who is better, but I will say too many people are sleeping on Leal.

Well they did go one on one during practice. Rivals list Walker as a 6'5 270lb SDE, ESPN listed him as a 6'5 263lbs DE. 247 have him as the #1 DT at 6'5 285lbs. At the ALL American game he measurements was 6'4.5 287.8lbs. So yeah, Walker has a better upside. Both teams got them a dominant force on the line. Heres to the next 3 battles in the SECCG
Antonio Alfano vs Travon Walker

i mean....leal, who never went to any camps at all, just went to san antonio and was literally called unblockable and is now in legitimate conversation for being 247s #1 overall player

Superlatives to close the book on the 2019 All-American Bowl

quote:

Most college-ready: Antonio Alfano

Alfano looked like he was on a mission all week long. His combination of athleticism, size, versatility and competitive temperament could pencil him in as a starter at just about any program in the nation and in just about any scheme. Whether it’s an edge pass rusher or an interior defender, Alfano is physically prepared to do it and I’d expect him to show up quickly next fall at Alabama.

Quietest dominant week: Travon Walker

At defensive line, particularly on the interior, it’s not always about filling up the stat sheet. At the end of the week, the common sentiment among our team as well as coaches we talked to was this: “It won’t surprise me at all if Travon Walker ends up being the best player in this class.” His body type, his movement skills and his upside are all extremely rare. He didn’t flash in the same way as Leal or Alfano but you’ll have a hard time finding a bad rep either and for a defensive tackle that played inside linebacker in high school, he’s going to develop at a rapid pace.

Top performers from Day 1 of the 2019 All-American Bowl

quote:

ALPHA DOG

It’s telling when a prospect can come into an All-American setting and dominate not just look better than his peers but significantly better. Alabama signee Antonio Alfano (28) didn’t just look better than his peers — he was significantly better. Alfano showed up lean and fit at 275 pounds but at that size, he spent most of Tuesday’s practice at defensive tackle and was strong enough to hold the point of attack. He flashed athleticism as a penetrator that was totally disruptive; Offensive linemen couldn’t do anything with him. In the run game, Alfano created chaos and notched several tackles for loss. From a consistency and splash standpoint, nobody had the bigger impact than Alfano. 247Sports already considers Alfano as the No. 8 player in the class of 2019, much higher than his 247Sports Composite ranking. His standing could raise after this week.

No mention of Walker in the article. DeMarvin Leal was listed as one of the top performers.

Top performers from Day 2 at the All-American Bowl

quote:

TOP 10 PERFORMERS

Antonio Alfano (28) - It wasn’t quite the same level of dominance we saw on day one but Alfano still made his presence felt. His quickness at the snap and ability to penetrate without creating running lanes makes him a really valuable line of scrimmage defender. Alfano has signed with Alabama.

No mention of Walker in the article. DeMarvin Leal was the Alpha Dog of Day 2.

Top performers from Day 3 of the All-American Bowl

quote:

TOP 10 PERFORMERS

DL Antonio Alfano (28) - It was more of the same from Alfano. The Alabama signee showed quickness and strength at the snap and the flexibility to get skinny and penetrate the line of scrimmage. He landed another sack in 11 on 11 play and created a lot of negative plays once again.

Again, DeMarvin Leal was the Alpha Dog and no mention of Walker in the article.

But you're right that both teams got great players.

ALLBAMERICAN Game notes

Travon Walker
The nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle prospect, and the state of Georgia’s overall top recruit, is Upson-Lee stud Travon Walker. He possesses excellent versatility, with the ability to play anywhere along the defensive front. Walker has tremendous physical upside at 6-5, 275 pounds, combined with an aggressive demeanor and solid technique. Even with the Bulldogs’ level of talent on the defensive line, Walker could see a ton of playing time as a true freshman.

Antonio Alfano
At 6-4, 285 pounds, the No. 1 player out of the state of New Jersey is not only a big body who can be explosive with good strength, but he also is a very good overall athlete, all of which can allow him to be an ideal fit as a 5-technique. His athletic ability is off the charts for a defensive lineman and he has the potential to be a major contributor early in his collegiate career.

DEMARVIN LEAL
At 6-4, 280 pounds, Leal is the total package of size, quickness and versatility. At the next level he can play on the interior thanks to his size, strength and technique, or he can be the edge defender with his lightning quick burst off the line. Leal sheds his blockers quickly and with violence, freeing him up to make plays all across the field.

Nobody knows who is going to be more productive in their defensive scheme but we got us a dam good one.

Be interesting to see which of the 3 are first rounders in a few years. Our last big time interior prospect didn’t pan out as we had hoped he would. It’s also been one of the spots that UGA hasn’t recruited well compared to other schools so it was nice to get him. I suspect his athleticism will put him in the games pretty early in his career. Nolan Smith and Walker on the same D-Line should create some headaches especially with Adam Anderson and Brenton Cox coming on strong.
