Ruthless tactics, of course.
All I have been saying. Saban has been using some ruthless tactics because HE CAN. And he can because bama is on top and winning. And by ruthless tactics I am referring to his "roster management".

Anything like reading a speech from a previous recruit?
Not really. That was something relatively petty that Trooper and Foster did. Not really a recruiting tactic to help improve a recruiting class.

He can because they don't get kicked out of school for stupid shite. AU would be doing it if they could keep their players for three or four years.

I suppose you can choose to recruit people with character issues and not develop them, or else you can give them proper training and let them choose for themselves if they would like the chance to compete somewhere else if they are sitting on the bench.
Bella. Due to Chizik's meddling there was an issue of development, due to other coaches there were character issues that were unpunished, Chizik had a hand in this.
With that said don't throw stones about players and character issues. There is a reason you hear of no problems from UA players and it isn't due to them being model citizens at UA.

I'm late to this . . . but the last few pages are priceless.

Someone is a bit paranoid it appears, only leverage Saban has is showing a kid his rings. He can offer no more/less than any other coach and scholarships can be cut but not for a 5* player unless you can find an example of one.
You are mighty darn naive. Saban runs UA from top to bottom in many ways. Auburn will never have that level of support because the profs hate athletics.

quote:All SEC schools do this, LSU does it when it comes to "grey" shirting players and other schools as well. This isn't just an Alabama thing, so I am not sure how this would make Saban any more "ruthless" than Les in how they get creative with roster management. LSU has been known for it attrition of 2* and 3* players "moving" on to other smaller schools when they sign a large recruiting class to make room.

You know what? I also think bama players are currently better behaved because they know saban has to run about 10 of them off every spring. I think that is another somewhat unforeseen benefit that has come about from his sign and cut tactics.

Quite possible. Several years ago AU would not have. But I think as affective as it has been for bama (and also LSU to a lesser extent), I think other schools like AU/UGA/UF will eventually abandon the moral high ground to survive.

Moral high ground? You guys had Trooper.
And you just named three thug schools.

Not true. UGA and UF have been very outspoken about the fact they REFUSE to do this.
I think that will change though. Can't always do the "right" thing if you want to compete with someone who is not. There is no karma system that is going to make everything right at the end of the day.

Nothing says ruthless like pushing a guy off the team who took a bullet in the butt the night two of his friends died.

Referring to Eric Mack who is no longer physically able to play football, yet AU is still going to pay for the rest of his college?
Yeah, great example. Again I have low expectations around here so it is all good.

More like an untenable position to take if you want to compete against teams and programs that do not take the same position in an area that really does matter competitively speaking.

At least Bama was troubled by staying in that crazy hotel in Miami during the Championship game.
We laugh at you.
