Recently? Playoffs ended 6 weeks ago.

A&M had more players at these games than any other team. Most showed out pretty well.

Only if you include transfers.

If you look at composite recruiting rankings, it's still:

1. Texas A&M 325.02
2. Alabama 321.80
3. Georgia 315.21

Sign Jacoby Mathews and A&M is at 327.45
Sign Shemar Stewart and A&M is at 328.55
Sign Harold Perkins and A&M is at 328.59

Sign Mathews and Stewart and A&M is at 330.59
Sign Mathews and Perkins and A&M is at 330.62
Sign Stewart and Perkins and A&M is at 331.66
Sign all three and A&M is at 333.35

In the era of the transfer portal, why wouldn’t you?

Campbell projects at Linebacker but played DL in high school.

Sounds like a good jack linebacker to me. Comparison is to Micah Parsons.

Why would anyone care about notes as to what an SEC recruit thought about other non-SEC schools like Tulane? Why would you have some irrational obsession / inferiority complex about what your recruits thought about Tulane?

Because the portal doesn’t have an end date and not everyone prioritizes it, much less utilizes it.

That is is already changing and if a coach decides not to that program will get left behind. Lets see how well Clemson does moving forward as Dabo dislikes the portal. A transfer takes the same spot as a incoming freshman and both count as initial counters.

LSU, Ole Miss, and Arkansas just strengthen their teams by using the portal.

In the end the rankings should reflect the class a program has coming in not just the ones from HS. It should be based on overall additions. UA brought in 3 transfers that are all considered NFL bound. Players that have already proven they can play at the highest level so not sure why they would not get ranked vs a player that only has potential based on his HS years.

The transfer portal is basically a free agency market and not like the days of old plucking a kid out of JUCO. The top programs are going to use it to find immediate impact players like Saban did this year with Williams and HT.

They update the ranking all year.

So? That’s their fault.

If it’s an assessment of incoming talent why would you not include all the talent?

So its unreasonable to include portals into recruiting ranks. Transfers have never counted that way, so It has nothing to do with fault. Simply Makes more sense to keep portal ranks and high school ranks separate.

We didn't do that for JUCO players. Why do it for the portal kids?

Transferring is also different now. You’re trying to act like it’s the same. Back then, there were so few immediate play transfers.

Now there’s so many that they are getting rankings and star ratings. So there’s no reason they shouldn’t be included in overall recruiting rankings.

It is different, as in its not close to the same for every team, and can differ wildly for the same program from year to year, while recruiting out of high school is about the same.

It makes sense for them to remain apart, and thankfully the composite hasn't made the transition you are advocating for, though I am sure they will at some point, which will not justify it.

One thing I've noticed for the transfer rankings is it seems to ignore those transferring out, leading to a team that has a lot of churn looking better than it really is.

It would be interesting in an overall recruiting ranking (transfer and traditional) to compare that against the outgoing talent (graduating, NFL, transfers, kicked off the team). Then yours have a good idea if which way the team is trending.

But combining the two without that additional information doesn't really seem useful. I like keeping them separate, but would prefer they were ranked using net gain vs only counting the transfers in.

24/7 will have a total team talent ranking once the rosters are all set for the Fall, that will take into account the entire team which will evaluate who is still on campus and on the team whcih would of course include transfers out an in.
