I think you missed the point the kid was making, sure money is important, you would be an idiot to play for free.
These are, a lot of them, 5 stars kids. He is saying, if he can get playing time early, knowing he could be a three and out and go pro, yes it would make a lot of sense to take a 20% haircut on the NIL be able to prove himself early and probably move himself up a few spots on the draft making well more than the 20% paycut he took.
In other words, the last 50grand was not worth it, not the total nut.
