What does that have to do with what you are claiming? He already signed a professional contract and was paid. He was a professional baseball player. Weinke was a professional baseball player. Yet both returned to play college football. They don't lose amateur status completely.

No I meant that they have to give up being paid
I didn't mean you can't come back, might've been unclear sorry
I know you can come back and that is why I also mentioned Ray and Jai Miller at Bama, Miller even played for a MLB team. I realize guys can come back that isn't what I was saying
You can't do both at the same time or whatever, can't sign a contract for X amount of money then play college football

I'll go look up Russell Wilson's situation but Im almost positive the only way you can do it is to play college fball and not take money from MLB, endorsements, contracts and the same
You can get paid in other sports and still have eligibility for football
Rusell Wilson was getting paid by the Rockies while playing For NCState
Drew Henson was getting payed by the yankees while playing for Michigan.

quote:You want me to elaborate? As usual, you made some absolute statements, this time about playing MLB and losing amateur status, that were absolutely wrong. You have a habit of doing this. You know a lot less about things than you think you do. Stop posting comments about things that you aren't educated about.
Nice addition to the conversation

Look above Trey wasn't talking eligibility I realize that
Again why I mentioned Jai Miller

That was one sentence on the convo and the rest was a flame
Nice try though

Ok is it just the SEC that won't let guys get paid? I didn't know that
How long did Henson still play for Yankees and Michigan at the same time?

Im not even sure that true. Although I cant think of anyone who has.

2 years I think. Then he left to play baseball full time.

There has been numerous articles written about kids playing summer league ball and a bunch of other baseball leagues and getting paid while in college. They can can play ball in one sport and get paid as long as it's not the sport they are on scholly for. More than likely, it's Saban himself that has a problem with the two sport thing.

Yeah Summer League ball sounds more likely
I seem to remember this with Woodall as well and he gave it up to play full time at Bama
Jai Miller and Melvin Ray were both just done with MLB and I realize both still had eligibility left

Why was Jeremy Bloom's situation different that the others? Was it because of his sponsors? I know it was a big deal and he was initially declared ineligible.
I didn't pay much attention to it when it was going on.

quote:Yes.
Was it because of his sponsors?

Student-athletes are allowed a pro salary in one sport while retaining collegiate eligibility in another, but they may not accept endorsement money.
In a statement, the NCAA said Bloom, who would be a junior, "rendered himself permanently ineligible for intercollegiate athletics with multiple and willful violations of NCAA rules regarding endorsements."

No you made one sentence stating what you thought I meant and I admitted bottom of last page and top of this one that I was unclear and wasn't meaning eligibility that is all. The rest was just your personal opinion interpreted by me as a worthless flame.
It is an interesting subject to me so I am just inquisitive. I was unclear as I stated earlier about what I thought the situation was/is and corrected myself

I mentioned Melvin Ray Rocky, he had to leave the MLB organization right? That was my understanding when he walked on at AU
Most players have it negotiated into their contracts (if they're good enough) that the organization will pay for their full tuition if/when they go back to school, so they don't need to be on scholarship the majority of the time.

I never flamed you WDE
I was stating what I thought and was unclear and obviously now wrong, it happens
I have respect for you bro but you're losing it quickly. I'm not on here to flame anyone else like you clearly showed up to do and I already stated I was wrong and stood corrected. I stated what I thought was the case I just used "eligibility" and I guess should've used "joint participation in both sports" I don't know
that is what I meant with my initial statement. Maybe you shouldn't take this stuff so seriously
