Forgive me if this has already been covered but:

Did you have any head to head battles with Texas regarding recruits and did you see any gains in recruiting that correlate with being in the SEC?

And I can't post on Aggies board so it's here

You won't see many of our kids that have "offers" from Texas because they are notorious for only offering if they know you will commit. But the best player in the state (Ricky Seals-Jones) was originally committed to Texas and signed with A&M.

Same with the best rush DE in the state Daeshon Hall.

A bunch of our kids had legit interest from Mack Brown but never gave them a look so never got an offer.

They will never admit as much because, according to Mack Brown, only commits ever had an offer from Texas in the first place.

That having been said, Daeshon Hall and Ricky Seals-Jones both decommitted from Texas and signed with A&M.

Of all of the A&M decommitments, however:

Quincy Adeboyejo - Ole Miss
Tony Stevens - Auburn
Edward Williams - Texas Tech
Rob Zimmerman - Toledo
Cameron Echols-Luper - TCU
Kerrick Huggins - Oklahoma (JUCO)

So out of the top ten players in the state. A&M got more or less than years past?

Just going by 247 it looks like the Longhorn network didn't help them in recruiting. Small class and AM got the majority of talent.

I think we probably got one or two more "Top 10" than we normally do (especially if you are considering Derrick Griffin who would have signed with us if we thought he could qualify).

The big thing is WHO we got.

RSJ - For a long time considered the #1 player in state, dropped some at the end but still highly coveted.

Derrick Griffin - Stud WR, never gave Texas the time of day, will go JUCO but is still saying he is working towards being an Aggie some day.

DL - A position that Texas has dominated at in the state for several years, they were blanked on. We have 6 from in the state and 3 of them are studs by any measure.

QB - They signed Swoopes who is a project at best, was dropped from the #1 Dual Threat to an Athlete based upon his shitty performance this year. We signed Kohl Stewart (who had some big time offers and would have had more but he was expected to sign with the MLB ... projected top 10 draft pick but wants to go to college) and Kenny Hill who is a national top 10 dual threat guy and already being projected as our next starter by a lot of people after JFF leaves.

A lot of these guys may not be state top 10 (I mean ... there is a limited number of spots in that group) but almost every one could have gone to Texas if they wanted and in prior years, probably most would have.

Signed the best DT we have since I was in school. Excellent, excellent recruiting on the DL. We haven't been able to get crap at DT with OU and Texas taking them all in years past

Thanks.

Too bad you two don't play anymore. It would be fun to watch y'all do to the horns what UGA does to Tech.

Which if you don't know the history; Tech left the SEC for greener pastures so to speak. I don't think that rivalry has been much to speak of for a while and will only get worse.

A&M has started to get competitive with Texas the last couple of years but this was the first time we have really kicked their arse in the Mack Brown era. Most of the real jewels of their class were stolen by us or others, the Robinson decommit being the icing on the cake.

A few years ago Texas would have their big Junior Day and just lock up most of the big talent in the State in one swoop. I remember one year they had 22 official offers and 20 commits. Then they started to move away from kids that weren't going to commit to them and never "offer" them to keep the mystique. Then they moved to "being approved for an offer". Now they are offering kids and getting beat. 2014 looks ugly for them. They went hard after our 2 LB commits and lost already. They have some early commits but most of them are actively open to other schools which NEVER used to happen. Essentially they are becoming a "safety" school which was unthinkable a few years ago.

Of course Texas folks act as though it has always been this way but that is untrue. A&M dominated Texas recruiting from the mid '80s to the mid '90s and when Texas got Brown and OU got Stoops along with HUGE upgrades to their facilities it put us behind the 8 ball. By the time we played catch up we were too far behind and RC was on his last legs. The Fran hire along with an AD that wasn't truly committed to winning in football made the '00s a dark decade.

Now everything seems to be going our way. We have a hot coach who has made A&M into a cool destination with new unis and a myriad of other things. The SEC move is HUGE. JFF winning the Heisman. We also built an amazing new weight room and have a ton of other new facilities on the way to go with the new Kyle. A lot of that is "business as usual" in the SEC but it wasn't in the Big 12 and so we are crushing everyone. OU is basically curled up in a ball in the corner praying A&M doesn't go after any more of their commits.

At the same time Texas is even getting nibbled away at by TCU and Baylor which just shouldn't happen. Eventually they will get rid of Mack and rebuild but for now it really is murky for them. They bet big our SEC move would hurt us and it has had the complete opposite affect. The Big 12 schedule also sucks with lots of crap games in half empty small stadiums. The LHN has actually lowered their profile by putting lots of content (games and coaches shows) on a channel no one gets.

It's really a perfect storm but the difference between this one and others is A&M is so much larger, richer, and more powerful than in the past. It will be very hard to keep us down once we get up, you could argue it will be easier for us than Texas going forward because the SEC is such a dominant brand.

its more than recent memory but a&m used to pull classes like this in the late 80s/early 90s when a&m was the big dog in texas. tu tries hard to marginalize our program as an also ran but it isnt. its a top 20 program of all time that has had a really rough decade brought on by fricking dennis franchione

Most here are too young to remember when we ran shop in texas with the wrecking crew defense (the one that beat bo jackson in the cotton bowl.)

Just like the rest of college football, times change and teams get better or worse.

We've beat them in head to head... We've both lost to teams like SMU before too (eric dickerson)

Don't forget that our success is not just due to the SEC. If we had put up a season like Mizzou, we would be struggling right now. Sumlin is also a special kind of coach that kids gravitate to.
