Or, he's telling the AJC's UGA fanbase exactly what we want to hear: that Spurrier is a POS and Carolina screwed the pooch on getting a good RB (how true or reasonable it is doesn't matter if it garners page clicks).

I'm sure thats what the AJC is doing.

Nick Chubb still sounds like an idiot for not even remembering his recruitment correctly and a bitch for the "I didn't seem important to them" line.

You sound upset that he passed on USCe and that Spurrier screwed the pooch on this one.

Meh. It was almost a year ago, and he probably wasn't taking great care to be exact with the timeline.

Really? I don't think it's unreasonable to want to meet the head coach. When you're visiting a bunch of schools and their head coaches are paying a lot of attention to you, it stands out when one head coach doesn't. It's not "being a bitch"; it's just reality.

I really don't see what the big deal is with these comments. He's not ripping anyone.

I do not get the Diva vibe from Chubb at all. I don't think it is very unreasonable to want to meet the head coach of a prospective program.

Its usually not unreasonable.

But when you visit during the SEC meetings when the HC has to be in Destin and complain about not seeing him and say "its like they didn't really care about me" it falls into idiot/diva/bitch territory.

“I had my date set (last spring) when I was going to commit to a school. All of sudden, I hear from South Carolina the next day, so I pushed my time back so I go down there and visit with those coaches. I pushed it back just for them.

“When I go over there to visit, Coach (Steve) Spurrier isn’t even there. So I waited a week and came back to visit again. And he’s still not there. I don’t know. I just didn’t feel like I was important to them.”

This is not even a little bit unreasonable. He tried to give South Carolina a chance, delayed his commitment, visited twice, but never got to meet the head coach. I'd be disappointed too.

He should have been smarter than scheduling his second visit during the SEC meetings when Spurrier is guaranteed not to be there if he really wanted to meet Spurrier.

The first visit I can understand since he probably didn't know it was Spurrier's b-day.

But saying he visited the next week when in reality it was a month and a half between visits and making it seem like its Spurrier's fault for not being there when he was in Destin for the SEC meetings is ridiculous.

Its definitely a false account of what happened and while the AJC played a role Chubb is stupid for not understanding why Spurrier wasn't there

Or he just said "frick it, it's not meant to be. I'll go ahead and commit." That's how I interpreted his comments in the first place. I think you're making something out of nothing here.

No I think the AJC wants UGA fans to think Spurrier is too old to give a frick about recruits and that Nick Chubb is a retard for not understanding why Spurrier wasn't there.

Why would the AJC want that?

You assume that he doesn't understand, but his comments don't really indicate that. It's possible to understand and still be disappointed.

So it's completely on a 17-18 year old to make sure South Carolina's coaches do not have prior engagements?

None of this makes sense.

You are to be commended for toeing the company line as well as you do. However at a certain point it has to be up to a 40 year old Assistant Coach and/or Recruiting Coordinator to say the following-

"Nick, you are an important recruit to us here at South Carolina. The visit you scheduled is on a weekend when Coach Spurrier is not in town. He would like to meet with you, can you visit the next weekend?"

It really isn't brain surgery. As much as USC fans like to pick on Richt, I have yet to hear of an instance when a recruit had to hunt him down when on visit; regardless of circumstances or prior engagements. One may exist, but not many.

His comments indicate that Spurrier had the ability to be there, or was on campus/in town and just didn't want to meet with him.

Also from the AJC:

quote:

Q: Which school would you have considered more if they had offered earlier?

A: “Definitely Georgia. They offered me on signing day last year (during my junior year). I felt like if they had offered me earlier, it could’ve been different. It would’ve been a way harder decision. Georgia and Alabama were two of my favorite schools going into the process. And I just felt like Georgia was offering out-of-state kids before the in-state kids

Guess who that was? It happens at a lot of places, apparently....

It was Bryson Allen-Williams, and I'm sorry he feels that way.

The only LB we offered before the in-state kids was Rashaan Evans. Again, not unreasonable.

Another funny tidbit from BAW's story:
quote:

“It was Coach (Steve) Spurrier, and I think it was before I committed. You know, they have a safety on their team named Brison Williams, and my name is Bryson Allen-Williams. When we were talking, Coach Spurrier told me that he needed some DBs. I looked at my mom, and I was like ‘I don’t think I play DB.’ He called back a couple of days later and said ‘Aw, my bad. I had you mistaken you for Brison Williams.’ So I thought that was pretty funny.”

The one thing we can all agree on is the AJC is hot garbage that only gets hits by misleading titles and pissing off fan bases. Having said that,

This has nothing to do with SOS's staff not having the presence of mind to schedule a visit when he's there.

Actually it does sort of....if BAW is correct in his recollections, Richt's staff didn't have the presence of mind to schedule an offer to BAW early enough when he (BAW) wanted it.

Dropping the ball is dropping the ball, regardless of whether it's with the left hand (USC) or right hand (UGA).....

That is stretching things to the max. You don't "schedule" offers with kids, you offer them when you feel you need to.

That said, our old staff was lazy with recruiting outside of Chris Wilson, it is not surprising that they screwed this up, I felt they offered him much too late and started really trying to recruit him much later than they should have. They absolutely screwed up, but that line is hilarious.
