And comparing this situation to John Parker Wilson is laughable. JPW committed at a time when bama had to beg players to come. The talent competition on campus is no comparison. The kid should go to a school who wants him - which happens to be every school in america except bama.

Fascinating how we all pretend to know what is best for these people we don't know.

JPW actually originally committed in the 2004 class. Which was a solid class that set the foundation to recovering from sanctions.
And I kind of commend the guy for sticking to his guns to attend the school he wanted to. Even if it's a delayed enrollment. Too many people want immediate satisfaction these days.

You are melting hard. What about the guy that's about to be a two year starter at center, Bradley Bozeman. Is that comparable? Bozeman could've played at several other SEC schools right away. One of the strongest kids on our team and was great friends with Reuben Foster coming out of high school. He chose to grayshirt at Alabama instead. This is a lifetime decision, not a 4 year decision. Parks wants to play at Alabama and he's willing to go the extra mile to do so. He wasn't playing next season anyway, how you can call a kid stupid for going where he wants to go is beyond me.

Why would bama cheat to land it's 26th best player who will likely transfer in a year even if he does greyshirt?

Well said.

It means we want him less than 25 other guys
No, it doesn't. It means that he happens to play a position that we didn't need as much of compared to other positions. Does not mean there were 25 guys they "wanted" more. Means there were 25 guys they "needed" more.

And during a time we had to beg players to come he STILL took a greyshirt. Both are greyshirts. At the end of the day, it is a representation of where he is needed.
Kid didn't have to take it. He was inundated with calls from AU, Baylor, Miami, UGA, and more today. He had offers from all over, including Florida. He had choices and, for whatever reason, he chose a Bama greyshirt. Seems like he really wanted to be at Bama.

This one baffles me, he's talented enough to play as a frosh. I don't know how Bama does it, a high 4 star would rather sit a yr than probably play at UF.

If he wants to take a greyshirt and play for Bama, fine.
If he wants to check out other places and go there, fine.
But this shouldn't upset you. It's his life and he has plenty of opportunities.

Terrible thing Bama did to that poor kid.
I know right, giving him the opportunity to commit for over a year and even though the kid waited until the last minute to create drama, Saban was still nice enough to offer him a way to still be part of Alabama.

Some low self esteem shite here. What happens if he has a career ending injury prior too a full ride? Just curious...

Remember this from a couple of years ago. Saban got Elisha Shaw a non football scholarship to attend Alabama after he got hurt. Saban is not the devil rivals want him to be.

quote:
One of the feel-good stories from this past year’s signing day was finalized on Monday.
Alabama officially got clearance from the NCAA to award a non-football scholarship to Elisha Shaw, the former Tucker High School standout who suffered a career-ending neck injury at the beginning of his senior season.
Before the injury, Shaw was rated as one of the state’s top 10 overall college football prospects for 2014. He had around 20 scholarship offers, and listed Alabama, UGA and Ole Miss as his leaders.
quote:
Before last February’s signing day, Shaw never publicly committed to Alabama nor was he ever listed as a Crimson Tide commit on any recruiting websites.
quote:
“He had committed to me,” Saban said. “But maybe that wouldn’t have stuck? I don’t know. We had a good relationship with him. We liked him as a player. We liked him as a person. We were committed to him after he told me he wanted to come to Alabama. As soon as all of this occurred, we told him that we were going to do everything we could to see if we could still give him the opportunity to get him an education here at the University of Alabama.”

It's not always about getting kids to your schooo, sometimes it's about keeping them away from direct competition.

No one waste scholarships to do that. This kid could have signed with any school That offered him. He just happens to believe that a grey shirt at Alabama is greater than playing right away for the rest of you scrubs.
