Has recruiting gotten this desperate for Joe Moorhead?

A low rated OT from Alabama decomitted from Tulane and all crystal balls point to Mississippi State. He has offers from Cornell, Jackson State, Alabama State,Mercer, among other small schools. Is that what we are down to. This guy wasn't on State's radar a week ago. Desperate.

You ever heard of Josh Jacobs?

You're gonna have to just trust the coaches' evaluations. There are always low rated recruits who fly under the radar and offensive tackles are very difficult to project anyway. Who knows, this kid might be blowing up this year and more big offers will follow.
While I didn't think JoMo was great in the A&M game, he did show me that he's probably going to be at least a decent coach. And I also started thinking that maybe some of what I thought was bad coaching was really Fitzgerald not making the correct plays.

Doesn’t state have a top20 class? Seems fine to me

Said player just committed to Mississippi State. Damn some of you are stupid as hell. He's been throwing out offers left and right recently because he's been turned down by the upper crust players. Get a clue.

When has State ever been able to recruit at a high level? We got still got some good recruits committed to State especially on the D-line. Coaching and development are probably more important than stars. Dak Prescott and Fitzgerald were high 2 stars or low 3 stars. They turned to be okay. It's more important to recruit to a system than stars.

If you're expecting to get all blue chips with so many other SEC schools in fairly close proximity, you will be terminally disappointed.

Yeah Stars don't matter. That's why Saban goes after 2 Stars so he can develop them. Mind numbing.

Our present center Elgton Jenkins was a 2 star and he is currently projected as a first 2 round draft pick. Jones is a 3 star and a growing young man. You sir are an alter or a sidewalk fan who has never stepped foot in a Mississippi State class. I am an alum and a contributing member of the Bulldog Club, Stop trolling, you look like an idiot!

That’s Saban’s game because Saban is a proven winner. I think state needs to focus on getting a good range of high 3 low 4 star guys in and develop them.
Player development and work ethic will take them further than projections. That’s how Moorhead will build this program. Next step is winning and exposure.
However, sometimes natural talent 5 star types do come in ready to work, and when they do you see the dominance emerge (bama, Ohio state, Clemson)

I've never stepped foot in a Mississippi State class? Could have fooled me. Let's see. I lived in Hightower Hall freshman year. Suttle Hall sophomore and junior year. Had many a class in Allen Hall, Mccool Hall, Hand Lab. Spent many a day in Student Union, Cafeteria by the Drill Field. Was there when we beat the Bear in 1980. Sorry, Was not a Frat Boy. Try again Hamhock.

NoNotMe...you've got to be either under 16 years old, or brand new to football recruiting just the same. People that follow football recruiting can tell you that star ratings often have no bearing on how O-lineman will turn out. Our highest ranked OL recruits have often been strokes.

Have you forgotten that you’re Mississippi state?

Probably should stay focused on girls basketball.

Recruiting stars is the biggest crapshoot on the OL vs. any other position IMO.
So many underrated guys end up being big time players. LSU's best OLinemen right now is 3-star center Lloyd Cushenberry, who is the lowest rated scholarship offensive lineman on our roster. He was rated a .8238 3-star in the composite which is a LOW 3-star and #1,522 overall player in his class. He only had 2 SEC offers besides us, MSU and South Carolina.
Our top rated OLineman, 4-star Austin Deculus was the #48 overall player and a .9772 4-star in the composite (very close to 5-star). He's in his 2nd year and they have tried him out at RT but he's been plain bad there, and is losing his job once again to Adrian Magee, a .8772 3-star (#427 overall in his class). Deculus had offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M & USC.
Magee's other offers were LA Tech and Oklahoma State.

You do realize one of the best OL in the NFL is Gabe Jackson and he was a 2* right? You clearly show you know almost nothing about recruiting, especially on the o-line. But state is about to flip 4* Charles Cross to go with 4* Brandon Cunningham, the top 2 OL in the state, if that makes you feel any better.

I saw him when he was on an unofficial to Bama. He's a speciman. Not an ounce of bad weight on him.

Meyer went after Jeff Demps and Brandon Jacobs in similar fashion. Sometimes a guy just fits what you want in a player. Usually it’s a failure like Mac had but sometimes they work out quite well. Especially Oline which seems to be a hard group to rank properly
