Interested in getting a report card of sorts from Ole Miss/Arky fans. The early signing period is very tough on new coaches. You have very little time to try and salvage the class.

For Mizzou and Coach Drink

Looks like we will end up losing 6 commitments that Odom had, but he was able to hold onto our two best commitments (IMO)

ESD makes things extremely difficult for new coaches. We closed well in ‘18 but the class was significantly worse than ‘19 & ‘20.

It’s pretty much just salvage what you can. There isn’t a whole lot left in the late period it seems, but the good news is the dead period starts soon so that will give theses guys some time to hopefully find some fits.

We've been through it twice with new coaches now. It sucks. Morris' first class was #49 because of it and now we're currently in the triple digits.

Bielema's first class on the other hand he was able to jump up to #23 with more time to recruit. Morris also had the #23 class last year with a full year to recruit. Not really much you can do about it except try to get kids to hold off and wait until February.

How many total commitments did you lose and how many are you expected to sign today?

After Morris was fired we lost around 9 I think. We had like 15 commits and we got down to 6. We gained two more today to put us at 8. Some of them could re-commit but it's still going to be an uphill battle trying to fill the class with whoever is left over plus some JUCOs or transfers.

The Curry and Slusher flip saved this from being a terrible day but still a lot of work to do for Pittman and staff

When is Jalen St. John supposed to be signing? Many Hog fans are hopeful that we can get him to flip as well since we got Curry.

Theory is you try to hold on to what you got and work the hell out of what's left after ESD. Best of luck to you both.

I’d say Arkansas or Illinois at this point, but not sure anyone knows.

The early signing period absolutely fricks teams that fire coaches so naturally we have been through it twice already. Good times!

Which is why programs should tread more carefully on pulling the plug on a coach.
Especially if he is only been on the job 2-3 years. Your recruiting takes time, effort and building relationships and when that gets severed it can really hurt a football program.

You lose continuity and in Ole Miss’s case I think it particularly hurt because Luke was doing a good job considering the hand he was dealt. Moore cost him the opportunity to coach in 2020 but IMO many Ole Miss supporters have hurt the program by not supporting him.
Now granted Kiffen is a splash hire but at least for this year his recruiting is not going to be good because again you have lost that stability. Going forward his recruiting will be better but again will the fans have enough patience to give him time to develop his program. We will see.

Arkansas OTOH is in a worse condition because they are now on their third coach in four years (Ole Miss is as well but the circumstances are different). Their identity is all over the place.
Arkansas used to be known for physical smash mouth football. They got away from that and never been the same. That appears to be a long term rebuild.
