Terry, who owned 20% of the company, pocketed another $20 million off of just Rivals.

Yahoo invested heavily in Rivals so far and it's paying off for them. Scout is sustained by FoxSports.

CBS was already invested in 247, and now they want to acquire them fully. I think that will be good for 247, as long as the keep the insiders. 247 has really good insiders for a lot of the SEC schools (except missouri.)

These sites are individually successful by school, it all depends on who the insiders are.

247 became the market leader b/c they were the first to introduce the Composite Rankings, and it makes sense to everyone b/c it takes the most data to show the average.

They became the market leader for a lot of reasons. They do pretty much everything better than their competition.

I'm sure those media executives really want to control what recruiting information we get...

Sure, but I think if you had to point to one competitive advantage they have over the rest of their market segment, it would be the Composite. They also have great insiders too, but again they don't have the best insiders for every school. For SC, yes, Tony Morrell and JC are the best insiders who cover SC. However, look at mizzou, 247 has no insider for that school, but Rivals does.

What are some other competitive advantages that you think 247 has over the other guys?

Rivals is still far and away the best for TN. 247 has, hands down, the better writers, but their information is not as timely.

Lsu's rivals site has the best Movie reviews on the web. You won't find out squat about recruiting, but atleast you know what movies to avoid.

The Arkansas 247 site is terrible. Our Rivals guys run circles around them. I still use 247 though because of the other sites I can visit.

We're finally seeing the extent of the REC's reach.

That makes three sports networks that Shannon Terry has built and sold.

I always liked Shannon, a lot of people don't. Say what you will but the guy has made millions doing the same thing over and over again.

He built Border Wars along with Jamie Newburg, sold it to Jim Heckman at Rivals. When Jim ran Rivals into the ground he bought it and sold it to Yahoo. After his two year non-compete expired he started 247 and now he is selling it to CBS.

I suspect the next non-compete is going to be longer for him ... he may make this is last one in the sports world for awhile.

FWIW... Rusty Mansell is saying Shannon is gonna stay on & run 247 for CBSSports. No telling how much CBS stock he got in this deal...

I would imagine that the total waste of human skin known as Bobby Burton made-out like a fat rat on this one too ... he was still with 247, right?

I've known him since the 10th grade in high school. He has always been a good guy.

He started a comic book company last year and I imagine that is where most of his efforts will be spent for a while.

I had heard about the ComicBook.com thing ... looks like he took Bobby Burton with him there. Bill King ... wow, matter of fact he took all the old guys with him.
