Uh, no. Chicken saw that the only way to monetize a free message board is through ad sales. The only way to make any any REAL money is to have as many unique visitors and page views as possible. The best way to do that was to expand the coverage area and the interest area.
It was a very smart business decision. All the site and sub forums combine for 45MM page views per month. Ads are sold in blocks of 1,000. This means that Chicken and investors have 45,000 blocks of 1,000 to sell each month. At a reasonable CPM (cost per thousand) of $2.50 that would result in $112,500 per month in revenue.
I'd say the decision to open it up to other fans had considerably less to do with people "ruining it for everybody else" and more to do with the practical business sense the decision made. That's just me, though.

It's funny when the guys who registered on the site pre summer 2012 try to argue that site is not affiliated with LSU in any way.
You can't take a site's board and say ok, this is a different site now.

The entire site is LSU affiliated. There are a shite load more LSU fans than any other team because it is an LSU affiliated site. The site was a part of tigerdroppings.com, which is an LSU affiliated site.
Chicken just broke it off because it got so big, teams from other schools saw how badass the tigerdroppings layout was.

No worries about Hootie, two of the fam (Cam & Cam) are coming to Bama and we got a safety spot coming open. I'm sure Cam & Cam will make sure the trio stay together.
