BREAKING: Former five-star LB headed to Alabama (Blair Angulo, 247 Mtn. Region)

quote:
Brandon "Ale" Kaho is headed to Bama.
The former five-star linebacker from Reno, Nev., was released from his national letter of intent with Washington on Monday and a source close to the situation has informed 247Sports that Alabama will be the landing spot.
It is expected that Kaho, the No. 1-rated inside linebacker in the 2018 class according to the 247Sports rankings, will depart for Tuscaloosa as early as Wednesday night.
The 6-foot-1, 218-pound prospect was a longtime commit to Brigham Young during the recruiting process before flipping his commitment to the Huskies just prior to the early signing period last December.
He signed with Washington last year and arrived in Seattle this summer, but never enrolled while wrapping up required coursework. Huskies head coach Chris Petersen cited "personal reasons" for the release of the program's highest-rated incoming freshman.
The Crimson Tide were heavily involved in Kaho's recruitment last year and were considered to have finished in a runner-up position. While committed to BYU, Kaho tripped to Tuscaloosa to camp with Alabama and promptly landed a scholarship offer from head coach Nick Saban.
Kaho returned to town for an official visit to campus the weekend of Nov. 4 and saw the Crimson Tide earn a big victory against LSU. He gave the trip rave reviews. "On this official, the difference I saw was how dedicated the coaches are and how differently they do things, not only with football but with the academic aspect, too," Kaho told 247Sports following his visit to Alabama last year.
"They know what classes you're taking and what assignments are coming up. They are on it. The one thing I was looking for was the coaches being real with me and not sugar coating anything. They were 100 percent real with me. I loved everything they told me and everything they talked about with me and my family. It was better than I thought it would be.
"Coach (Nick) Saban told me he could see me (playing inside and outside), too, since I have the athleticism. That made me feel a lot better because it doesn't make me one-dimensional in their defense. I could go pass rush, I could work on my coverage or fill gaps in the middle if I have to -- it's wherever they would need me. It made me feel a lot better about Alabama from a football standpoint."
Alabama brought in only one other true inside linebacker, three-star prospect Jaylen Moody, in the 2018 class. Kaho was never enrolled at Washington, so he's eligible immediately, although it figures to take him some time to get acclimated to a college program.
Kaho was a U.S. Army All-American and Polynesian Bowl participant. He was the nation's No. 133 overall prospect in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Alabama doing Alabama. Nothing to see here. As long as Emmert is in charge Saban and Alabama are untouchable

So any player that signs a nli can get out of it if he doesn’t enroll?

I guess as long as the school grants his release.

Not sure but I know this, Saban does what Saban wants. He earned it!

So what I've gathered is that the kid straight up lied about needing to be closer to home so he could switch to Bama. Does that about sum it up?

Likely so. That is one smart 247sports 5 star.

What guru said, if the coach/school grants the release then yeah, I guess they can.

Also just read that his Dad is moving to Bama with him so I guess he technically will be closer to home.
But even Bama fans gotta admit this whole thing looks fishy from the outside looking in. Ex recruit was told he didn't have a committable offer so he ends up at Washington. Then about a month after Bama loses an inside linebacker, this kid says he needs to be closer to home, gets a release, and then immediately commits to Bama. Come on man.

Yea, about 2 years ago I would have been a whole lot more sympathetic to this type of "tampering" to get a transfer argument.
But yea, after the last 2 years, LOL.

Everyone was all for letting kids do what their heart desired without penalty. Welp, here you go. This kid decided he wants to be at Alabama. He ain't gonna be the last.

Abe yes sir that is correct. As long as school releases you.

To get closer to home due to family issues. So, logically, he committed to a school further away.
