Early process to make room for a better player late. Took his pledge to prevent aubie from getting him.

Solid player, but nothing special. If Saban thought he was that good, he wouldn't have gotten processed on NSD for a higher rated player we signed.

You're Welcome.

Had a chance to play at both Bama and Auburn, and ended up having to go OOS. He was screwed.

Luckiest kid in Alabama yesterday.

seriously though, thanks for the info on him. I had seen him as a Bama commit back in the fall and was curious why Winston was not on Bama or Aubie's radar when his teammate Philon was.

Hope he loves his 4 years here and opens up the area for the future.

nicknamed "Duke"

BIG time hitter, very raw

played mostly inside, some outside in a 3 man front, has a nice lean & explosion, gained a lot of strength & put on muscle this year, up to about 6'3 285, really has good technique with shedding blocks, needs to get better tackling (most DL out of HS do though)has great footwork, more of a patient DL rather than overplaying trying to get to a QB, REALLY good against the run & wading through blockers & delivering a big hit, great athleticism, just very raw

REALLY wanted out of the area of AL he was in, sad but I understand, gonna be a great player for the hogs

Here is a nice youtube vid - LINK

Thanks for the breakdown, Troll. Really appreciate it.

I'm so envious of you guys. This kid, by all accounts, would have been one of the top players in Arkansas this year. As it stands, he's kind of an afterthought in Alabama. Crazy.

Oh well, glad to have him. If he turns out anywhere like Trey Flowers, we'll be lucky (looked like a player from day one - surprising).

Since you had so much feedback on Duke, have you had a chance to see his teammate play too? Winston? What were your thoughts on him? We really loaded up on DE this year (I think 6 or 7), but supposedly 1 or 2 may slide down to DT, 1 to TE, and 1 to LB/OLB...just depending on how things go.

And THERE'S the typical, arrogant Bama poster we've all come to love.

I don't know the facts of the story, but I am sure Philon will talk soon enough since the press will be after him. It has become a story in the papers now so we will probably hear about this for a while. I look for Stevenson to be added to Bama's staff in the next year or so. He has been wanting to hop on that train.

This.

Sad story. Unsurprising, though. Saban is a great coach and recruiter, but he has zero character. Absolutely despicable human being.

So is Les Miles. At least Saban had the decency not to accept his LOI knowing there was a chance he wouldn't have a scholarship available. Miles let a kid go through summer workouts with the team under the impression he would be a part of the team. Elliot Porter. LINK

I hope he goes animal on Bama like Fairley did last year and single handedly leads you to a win over the Gumps. Now THAT would be sweet poetic justice.

Hope he gets to play next year. Petrino is really on a RS kick.

Part of CBP's plan, and a good one I think - esp. with the 'non skill' type players.
He doesn't chase 'star rankings', they evaluate and identify players independently of that. Development of those players is a big part of his MO, redshirting gives them another year to develop.

I hope he DOESN'T play in 2012. People don't think we have good DT talent, but it's oru deepest position.

DD Jones
B Jones
R Thomas
V Askew
A Davis
D Hodge
J Jackson

All of those guys will be back next year. DD, B Jones, and R Thomas have good shots of playing in the NFL, I think. Anyway, i'd be VERY surprised if Philon comes in and plays with that group ahead of him.

I am a member of the Alabama rivals site, as well s one of the assistant coaches at Vigor and everyone on the oard knew this before today, and some one ask the question what really went on today at Vigor. He said the Alabama came a few weeks back and told Philon the he was going to have to Grey Shirt if he wanted to atend Bama, and if he had other options to go, and when today came Philon was hoping eveything was gonna be different but UA would not accept his letter of intent, because the fully expected him to grey shirt, He as upset but not he is at a top tier SEC program all should be well.

Haven't heard much about him, actually. I think he's just buried on the depth chart. He'll be a SO next season. He's up to 6'3", 280's. Hopefully he can put on some more weight and contribute this coming season.

for those that know, what's the nature of Philon's injury?... i thought a read back. He may not have had as strong of a senior season as he could have, but he's still got the potential to be a very good interior DL.

I thought it was pretty sh*tty the way Philon handled his commit/decommit from Auburn over the summer... and the comments from the Vigor HC are almost a joke... dudes' so far up saban's butt he could tough his throat.
