Legacy recruit Stephen Davis Jr. of Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork has de-committed from Auburn, he announced Sunday via Twitter.

After thinking a lot I have just decided to open my recruitment back up and de-commit from Auburn

quote:

"I just felt like I needed to enjoy my recruitment and reopen my decisions and really think about where I want to go to school for the next three or four years -- and really enjoy it," Davis told AuburnUndercover. "Not saying I wouldn't at Auburn but I thought about it. Really looking at Clemson, Georgia, FSU, Auburn and South Carolina. I will release my top five when I get a chance ...."

He originally committed while Ellis Johnson was our defensive coordinator. Auburn sites have reported for months that Muschamp wasn't very high on him

I actually think Muschamp is targeting the Marlon Charcter kid who is currently committed to South Carolina to replace him

This is almost unbearable.

Stephen Davis Jr decommits following our first game?

It's as if Updyke has poured Spike 80DF onto our recruiting.

I want answers and I want them now.

Letting a legacy go is never an easy decision. They must not feel good about him at all.

Yeah, I haven't even followed recruiting close this year and I could tell you this. Auburn coaching staff had hardly talked to him at all leading up to this.

He's a good football player, it's just that he's a tweener and Muschamp doesn't know where he'll fit in on the defense. At 6'4" 215 he's already big for a safety, he could easily grow into a LB, and his skill set may not fit into what Muschamp usually looks for at either position.

I'm glad all this insight is coming out now after he decommits, I didn't see this type of info when he was committed.

You should probably read through the Auburn Recruiting Thread. Ellitor keeps it update all the time and has been relaying this information for a while.

Should have read our recruiting thread. This isn't surprising. With that said I think he's a great athlete and wish we would go after him.

Agreed. His size reminds me of Ray-Ray Armstrong and Alec Ogletree early in their college careers. Alec Ogletree transitioned to MLB and became an NFL player, and Ray-Ray Armstrong stayed at safety, but was kicked off Miami's team and transferred to Faulkner University.

If you were a member to auburn boards you would of seen plenty of it. I don't like it I wish we would of kept him but the kid flat out said that he hadn't heard from our staff after Muschamp was hired. I don't like letting legacy go but if boom and the staff don't see him fitting their scheme I would rather they let him know than him come to auburn and sit the bench when he had other good options. We will let him go and he will end up being a all American

I want us to sign him, but AU insiders have been reporting this basically since Muschamp was hired.

We'll trade you him for Character, deal?
