If your fans here didn't beat their chests so much about "proving the sec rant wrong"
They were wrong, nobody on the rant thought that A&M would make a bowl game in 2012, 12 wins later including one over the top dog in the SEC and literally everyone was wrong. Problem is nobody wanted to admit it, just make excuses like "well if it werent for Manziel...". Which was the point of my earlier post, it doesnt matter what A&M does on the field. Everyone has already made up their mind. If A&M won a NC next year, the talk would be "Well they have a once in a lifetime coach in Sumlin, once he leaves they'll go back to being a doormat!"

In 2012? I had confidence in our defense. You should know this Ed considering it was a goal line interception that beat the tide

But the Rant--like nearly everyone else--was wrong.
Very wrong.
yes the rant was very wrong, not the first time, and won't be the last. Get over it.

And we seem to be getting a good amount of national attention as is right now

Again, awesome. That one win has sustained you for the last two years.
That attitude alone would make me want to go to Texas more. But it is just my opinion if I were a recruit. Plus I would be a defensive recruit and wouldn't want to go play for sumlin.

quote:No. I was just using that example as a point. Dear fricking lord. You said our defense has been shite for two years, well, it wasn't in 2012.
Again, awesome. That one win has sustained you for the last two years.

quote:then why is it happening? I don't understand it. Everyone here is SURE that strong is turning around the program and is SURE that no recruit would choose us over them. ESPECIALLY a defensive recruit....but it just keeps happening
Plus I would be a defensive recruit and wouldn't want to go play for sumlin

And if you were a QB recruit?

That's good, I haven't seen any of that. Still, from the sound of it, seems like it might be a long fall that you guys aren't prepared for.

However the weakness on defense shown over two years is concerning
What weakness on defense in 2012? The All American pass rusher or the #26 national scoring defense? Or are you referring to the Louisiana Tech game where the defense was missing four starters due to injury or suspension.
If anything, 2012 showed how LUCKY we were in regards to injuries. Our 1st team defense was on par with anyone else in the SEC in 2012. Unfortunately, our 2nd team defense was horrific.
Here was our 2 deep in 2012 (2013 starters in BOLD):
Rush End: Moore (JR), Taylor (SO)
Nose Tackle: Ennis (JR), Mathis (SR)
Def. Tackle: Nealy (SR), Williams (FR)
Strong End: Obioha (FR), Stansbury (SO)
WILL: Jenkins (JR), Russell (SR WALKON)
Mike: Stewart (SR), Baggs (SO)
SAM: Porter (SR), Bass (SO WALKON)
CB: Everett (SO), Harris (FR)
CB: Harris (SR), Jacobs (JR)
FS: Terrell (SR), Raven (SO)
SS: Matthews (SO), Hurd (JR)
Of the 2nd teamers, Obioha had to be moved out of position because of how bad the Taylors were...and eventually a true freshman had to step up due to injury, Ennis tore his ACL during the Arkansas game and was replaced by a true freshman, Baggs failed so badly that he was replaced by a true freshman and the JUCO at SAM was ALSO replaced by a true freshman, and we never solved the FS problem

Wow in no way did I say all of that. Strong has been there for what three months. Not exactly a huge sample size to draw conclusions from I believe said earlier that the next season will go a long way towards determining outcomes.

do you not watch ESPN? do you not read cbs sports or SI who have both written multiple a&m related articles this spring? if this is the long fall of national media attention....then frick

right now, A&M. could change with the coming year depending on how each of your seasons go.

You're more like Auburn or UGA than Florida, Texas or USC.
Pre-Spurrier, Florida had won more than 8 games once in any season. Just a thought.

I watch/read all of those. Haven't really noticed A&M in the spotlight.

Still, from the sound of it, seems like it might be a long fall
Top recruiting classes, new sterling facilities, a river of cash flowing like the Nile, and a head coach coveted by the blue bloods as well as the NFL all indicate otherwise.
But whatevs.
