Not sure I'd say Engstrom has really good athleticism. Not at all.
i said he had really good athleticism for his size. im not judging his athleticism based on 7 footers in the nba or on other college teams, im saying that for any person that big, he has really good athleticism. he runs very well. he's not super fast, but he doesnt have trouble carrying that big body around. his lateral movement is above average for someone that size also. he doesnt appear to be stiff, he just seems unskilled. its not that he cant move, its that he doesnt know where to move. also, his body fat is very good and i kinda include that as part of his athleticism. he has lots of good lean muscle. physically, there isnt anything more you could really hope for from a big man, unless you're hoping for dwight howard.

I just think its his length that makes him look athletic. If you look at his feet he doesn't really ever get off the ground that much, even when dunking. But then again 7 foot 1+ centers rarely do have good athleticism and those that do often get drafted pretty high He does however have above average speed which I contribute more to Hustle which is rare in the 7 footers. Ill take discipline over athleticism from him any day though. I love the blue collar players like Engstrom.

agreed. he's not a natural leaper. but with his limited basketball experience i imagine its probably not something he has worked on very much. fortunately, at his size, he doesnt have to jump very much or very high.

Probably just a different thought of what athleticism is. Can be a very broad topic.

agreed.
for most cases i view athleticism as explosiveness and muscle memory. but i think its a little bit different story when assessing the athleticism of people that big. if you've ever played amateur sports with people that size you know that many of them struggle with coordination and conditioning.

The one guy's plus/minus that I would like to see is Eblen's. My guess is it's better than people would think, considering he has basically no offensive game.

Agreed. The shorter players always like to say that if they were "that tall" they'd be playing in the NBA, but what they fail to realize is the rarity of coordination that is found in men "that tall". More height, less coordination.

It may be better than I'd guess, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't the worst. Not that hes THAT bad, but he was also often in there when Releford was out which killed the offensive flow.

If you click on each players name there's a link for plus/minus. Although there's not like an average plus/minus so you'd have to go through each player to compare them.
Eblen's wasn't very good in non-conference but starting with the SEC schedule he was on the plus side 7 times, with three negative games.
In conference play Carl had 5 plus games, 5 negative games. -13 in that Florida game when Young just destroyed all of our big men (Jacobs was -10), but plus 14 against MSU at home when Jamychal came back. That makes sense because he played real well defensively against Sidney.

Looks like Eblen had the second lowest in front of Gueye. Carl Engstroms was actually just a tad behind Andrew Steeles for 5th best among returnees with Releford, Randolph, and Lacey at the top.
1. Releford- 4.6
2. Randolph- 4.3
2. Lacey- 4.3
4. Steele- 2.5
5. Engstrom- 2.1
6. Cooper- 1.6
7. Jacobs- 1.1
8. Eblen- 0.8
9. Gueye- 0.1
1. Releford- 4.6

2. Lacey- 4.3
4. Steele- 2.5
5. Engstrom- 2.1
6. Cooper- 1.6
7. Jacobs- 1.1
8. Eblen- 0.8
9. Gueye- 0.1

What is plus/minus. Does it has something to do with turnovers or something?

Here's an article on Jarrell Martin. Someone start the 2013 thread. I nominate Bird to do it. LINK
