It took a while, but Alabama landed the biggest commitment thus far in the Anthony Grant era when five-star forward Devonta Pollard committed to the Crimson Tide moments ago at a ceremony held at Kemper County High School in De Kalb, Mississippi.
Pollard selected Alabama over Texas, Missouri, Georgetown, and LSU. The 6-foot-8, 205-pounder delayed his decision a few weeks past the NCAA signing period, and is the final national top 50 prospect in the class of 2012 to commit and or sign with a program.
The five-star wing becomes Grant’s highest rated recruit at Alabama and is the only member of the Crimson Tide's 2012 recruiting class. Assistant coach Dan Hipsher was Pollard's recruiter of record for Alabama.
Pollard has a grade of 99 from 247Sports and is ranked as the no. 26 overall prospect in the nation. He averaged 23.8 points, 15.7 rebounds, and 5.1 blocks per game as a senior helping Kemper County reel off 15 consecutive wins en route to winning the Mississippi Class 3A state championship.

You mean the 2011 class that has all 6 members still on the team, 5 of which started a game last year? That 2011 class? Clown. 21-0. Pollard baby.

Devonta Pollard, 5-star McDonald’s All-American, commits to Alabama over Texas, LSU
Alabama head basketball coach can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Five-star basketball recruit Dovonta Pollard committed to play for Grant and the Crimson Tide today after a long drawn-out recruiting process that began with the elite prospect leaning towards attending Mississippi State. That all changed when Rick Stansbury was fired, opening the door for Alabama to woo him to Tuscaloosa. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound small forward from Porterville, Miss. chose Alabama over Texas, Georgetown, Missouri and LSU.
Rivals lists him as the 22nd best player in the country and 7th best player at his position. Mississippi’s Mr. Basketball averaged 23.8 points, 15.7 rebounds and 5.1 blocked shots this season.
Pollard is Grant’s first and only commitment from the 2012 class.

Congratulations... But is he one-n-done?

He wants to be but I don't think he is.

I've never really seen him play outside of some highlights, but those that have don't seem to think he's one and done good. Maybe two and done.

#DevontaPollard is now trending nationwide on twitter as well. Not bad for a small-town kid from Porterville, Mississippi.

If we can improve our outside shooting, no reason we can't be a top 20 team next year IMO

No chance.

I wonder if we will still pursue Harrell hard and try to get him to visit. I think he's a better player than Simmons so I wouldn't mind using another scholarship on this class for him.

that was his plan

I think he needs 2 years in college. He will really need to have a good season shooting from outside (highly unlikely once he puts on a Bama jersey) to get a high grade from the NBA. 6'8" makes you a 2 guard these days. Jordan would be undersized in today's NBA.
Posted on 6/1/12 at 5:52 pm to Robot Santa
He is a tweener and he will play the 3-5 for us(IMO). Has skills but not NBA ready yet.
Posted on 6/1/12 at 5:54 pm to Tide or Die87
Yeah he has a skill-set really of a 4 right now and he is a 2 in the NBA.
