Someone on BOL mentioned the possibility that his dad may have purposely reported that and then Walker would pick something different tomorrow. Do you think that's possible?

I guess anything can happen. I would hope they wouldn't pull a stunt like that though.

If there is a silver lining to losing out on practically every last target we really wanted (and there isn't really), it's that we know for da## sure that we aren't stretching any rules in recruiting when we finally do land a high profile player. Constantly finishing 2nd in recruiting is getting old though.
Any exciting backup possibilities? Somebody give us the scoop on this Darrell Johnson (sp?) guy we may land.

Power forward Darrell Johnson made an official visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend and several things stood out to the 6-foot-8 prospect about the Hokies on his visit.
??“(The trip) was pretty good, I got to see campus, hang out with the guys and work out with them,” he said. “I liked how the main attraction of everything is the college. Everyone loves Virginia Tech, they are all nice and very supportive.”??
Johnson had the chance to sit down and talk with Hokies head coach Seth Greenburg.??
“We have known each other for a while and I also enjoy speaking with him,” Johnson said. “This past weekend he was just talking about my role if I came. He told me that it was important to get in this summer and if I busted my butt I might be able to help out next year.”??
The visit was the first opportunity for Johnson to check out the Virginia Tech campus. One of the things that stood out was Cassell Coliseum and the potential for a loud environment. ??
“The facilities were nice,” he said. “The arena is old but I like the way it was built. You can tell that it can get loud. The way everything is set up with the band behind the visitor’s bench and where the students are I could see it being a great place to play.”??
Johnson hopes to make a trip to Memphis this coming week. He called head Tigers coach Josh Pastner over the weekend and is waiting to hear back on when he and his family can make the trip.??
Along with the Hokies and Tigers, two other programs have started to make contact with Johnson and could become a factor as well.??
“Alabama is supposed to call me this week and Kansas State e-mailed me last week,” Johnson said. “I am supposed to speak with both coaching staff’s this coming week and will see how interested they are in me.”??
Johnson has visited Alabama for a football game before. He has already done some homework on the Crimson Tide and is aware of their roster situation.??
“I saw where they had a post player get kicked off or leave the team recently,” he said. “They need a guy like me and I think I could help them out. I have been there for a football game and really liked what I saw of their facilities.”??
Now that Johnson is starting to get more interest and recruiting is changing by the week he is keeping all his options open.??
“Everybody is really equal right now,” he said. “The Virginia Tech visit was good, it helps me understand what is out there and what I am looking for. I want to make a few more visits and then make a final decision as to where I best fit in.”

From what I hear, he's not worth fretting over.

He's a decent prospect. He's better than Hank so it would have been nice to replace him with Walker, but it's nothing to meltdown over. Pollard, however, is a different story.

I asked Johnson on twitter if he's visiting us and he said no, he's only visiting the people that offered. I guess we made a few late calls but weren't desperate enough to offer.

Good Lord, is there a chance we get shut out for 2012? Has that ever happened? Come on Pollard and others.

What's the gut feeling on Pollard?

I think we land him. But being a devout follower of our basketball team, I like getting kicked in the stomach repeatedly. This will probably end the same way.

Does Pollard have a set date for his announcement?

You motherfrickers get out of here with this negative shite before I kill myself! Dangit hope that kid likes riding the bench. Man I dont want any unknown Juco players.

Man he just need to lock down the state and we will be ok. Forget Fla and the east coast. We keep getting bit trying to get those players.

***DeVon Walker decision update
Spoke with Shadrick Davis, the father of three-star Winter Haven (Fla.) SG DeVon Walker, who is signing later today. A local report came out yesterday saying that Walker would sign with Florida over Alabama- when asked about the validity of the report Davis said it was premature and has since been retracted. Davis said that as of last night, they had yet to come to a final decision and that things would be ironed out when they meet in the school conference room prior to the announcement.
Regardless, UF is trending strongly with Walker right now with proximity to home and the opportunity to play for the home state team being key factors. The Gators made a late push after a few scholarships came open and Walker felt familiar enough with the program despite not taking an official visit to Gainesville. Davis also admitted the relationship they have with UA head coach Anthony Grant is making things tough.
The announcement should come between 1:00-1:30 EST, so we’ll keep you guys updated, but as of now, all signs point to Walker signing with Florida.

The problem is the state doesn't produce bona fide studs every year. Folks laugh at me when I suggest Cothron, and here we are chasing waterfalls.
