He has a hard on for Cothron. Don't ask him that

And to UA, yes Georgetown is recruiting him very hard. He visits us this weekend and then Georgetown a week or two later.

I just don't see Georgetown happening. He's from rural Mississippi and his mother wants him to stay close to home. Tuscaloosa and Starkville make sense. DC doesn't.

I know, it was kind of a pointless joke.

Again though, we can't assume that Pollard will be turned off by this hire. Dude could be a good recruiter for all we know.

Doesn't matter what we think, that is who Grant is going after.

I expect Cothron to end up at a bigtime bball program.

Just saw where his teammate, Pat Swilling Jr. (of New Orleans) got offered by Ole Miss.

I could see someone like Frank Martin going after Cothron. He needs to take a few gambles to get that program kick-started.

At this point I'd say we are the overwhelming favorites. I just don't see him going to school at a place his mom won't be able to come see him play, and it sounds like State's hire didn't intrigue him at all.

Pollard to visit, down to two?

The biggest visitor to step foot on campus this weekend will be hosted by UA basketball coach Anthony Grant, not Nick Saban, as ESPNU 100 forward Devonta Pollard is set to take his official visit to Alabama. The Mississippi native has visited Tuscaloosa over a dozen times, but this could be the trip that puts the Crimson Tide over the top. Pollard recently eliminated Mississippi State after former head coach Rick Stansbury stepped down. He’s trimmed his list to Alabama, Georgetown, Missouri and Texas, but sources have told TideNation it’s a two-horse race between the Tide and the Hoyas. He’s expected to visit Georgetown next weekend before making a final decision.

quote:

Pollard wasn’t the only recruit who was affected by Stansbury’s decision to step down. Six-foot-9 big man Gavin Ware, who signed with Mississippi State in the early signing period, is reconsidering his decision after the recent coaching change. Ware plans to spend this week talking with his family and coaches before making any kind of decision. If he chooses to opt out of his scholarship, sources believe he wants to remain in the SEC, and Alabama could be a factor in his decision. The UA staff was high on Ware before he chose Mississippi State, and he and Pollard have expressed interest in playing together at the next level.

Until someone is announced as transferring or leaving the team, technically we only have one spot available. Now a guy like Andrew Steele could be on academic scholarship and we not know that, but I don't think it has been released to the public.

Arden (N.C.) Christ School power forward Shannon Hale has been committed to Alabama since October of 2010, becoming the Crimson Tide and Anthony Grant’s first pledge in the class of 2013. Little has changed in the 6-foot-7, 205-pounder’s recruitment since that time.

Hale has been committed to the Crimson Tide since October 2010.

“I’m pretty solid with Alabama. I haven’t really heard much from other schools since I committed,” said Hale. “I talk with the coaches pretty often. I’ll call them almost every week.

"I talk to Coach (John) Brannen the most. Our relationship is close. We talk about how everything is going, like school. It’s not just basketball talk. We have a good relationship.”

The Johnson City, Tennessee native was unable to attend any Alabama games this season, but monitored the program closely.

“I didn’t get a chance to go to any games this year. I went to the skills camp before the season started. I think they played pretty good this year. They could’ve done better, but I thought they did pretty good.”

Hale transferred to the Western North Carolina powerhouse prior to his junior year and helped the Greenies to a 32-5 record this past season, averaging 15.4 points and 5.2 rebounds a contest. With the high school season now over, he’s turned his focus to the AAU circuit where he’ll be suiting up for one of the nation’s more reputed programs.

“Our team did good, but we could’ve done a lot better. I was satisfied with the year. This summer, I’m playing with the Georgia Stars. I’m just trying to play as hard as I can every game so we can get to the Peach Jam and win that.”

Hale has a grade of 88 from 247Sports, making him a high three-star prospect.
