I wouldn't go so far as to say that aTm will whip Auburn's arse, seeing as you both have serious question marks at QB.

They should have a better running game based on returning players, but you are both bringing in new offensive systems. Both you are bringing in new defensive systems too.

Someone may win big in this game, but it could just as easily be Auburn as aTm. This has the makings of the biggest question mark game of the SEC West next season. I honestly don't know who will win given the uncertainty. Classic toss up game.

By the way, prayers go out to you and your family in this tough time. I've lost a grandfather and it sucks. Big time. Losing your dog in the same day is just a fricking kick in the nuts when you're down. I hope you pull through and remember the good times. That will make it easier.

Having said that, I look forward to arguing with you in the future.

Should Texas fans call them TAMC instead of TAMU?

Ironically, many Old Ags still refer to A&M as TAMC. Actually, "The Spirit of Aggieland", another A&M anthem, refers to the school as TAMC.

Like with most of our traditions that appear patently obscure, it's best for the outside observer to not try to get what is going on. It's a precarious endeavor, indeed.

It's because only teams like Bama can lose almost all of their defensive or offensive production and dominate the SEC West like the other teams are little girls

Oh wait last time they lost this many players they didn't even place in the top 3 in the West. I hear in today's football that is good enough to qualify for a BCS national championsihp game appearance though so no big deal.

Roll Mother Effing 15 BABY!

Well the main thing I gathered from reading this thread is that treyanastasio is still making his case for shittiest bama poster on the rant.

Oh come on. Trey is a good poster. Auburn's "problems" are well known due to the uncertainty by replacing both offensive and defensive coordinators. No one knows what you are gonna field next year. You can't blame a guy for proclaiming the worst case scenario.

I guarantee you Trey will be the first man to come back and admit he was wrong.

What are you talking about? He hasn't said a thing about Auburn's "problems" in this thread. He keeps beating the drum about dumb Auburn players referring to AU as the University of Auburn.

At the same time he doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're".

He's "Mr. Picture Guy" according to the DGB article. Wants kids to have pictures of everything... thats his pitch outside of being a genuinely likable guy for parents who seems to care about the kids.

They called themselves "Texas University" up until some time in the 50's when they tried to pass themselves as "THE University of Texas" to mimic what Ohio State uses to describe themselves.

This is one of the dumbest things I've read in my life.

The official name has ALWAYS been The University of Texas; in 1967, when the UT System was reorganized, it became "The University of Texas at Austin."

Just because some old books in the library are stamped "TxU" or an old football program calls the football team "Texas University" does not mean that the official name was anything but The University of Texas.

And here you had some poor, gullible LSU fans believing that load of bullshite.

Since football programs and other aggie literature of the past referred to Texas A&M as the "Texas Aggies," did that make Texas A&M to officially be "Texas"?

That's another circular argument that one would find themselves in with an aggie, that they are self-styled as the "Texas Aggies" in hopes of being recognized as The University of Texas.

Never happened, not going to happen, never will happen.

Want to know how to get an aggie in a snit (well, besides putting him in a round room and telling him to piss in a corner)? Tell him that Texas A&M was founded as a branch of The University of Texas (whose origins go way before those of Texas A&M; A&M just got some federal money - the "land grants" - and had to be established before it was taken away).

Here's the Texas Constitution, Article 7, Sec. 13:
quote:

AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL COLLEGE. The Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, established by an Act of the Legislature passed April 17th, 1871, located in the county of Brazos, is hereby made, and constituted a Branch of the University of Texas, for instruction in Agriculture, the Mechanic Arts, and the Natural Sciences connected therewith.

Texas Constitution

I'll check back later to see what kind of huffing and puffing that elicits from our buddies from College Station, aka Malfunction Junction.

Or maybe not.

From the same link:

quote:

(Amended Nov. 6, 1984.)

From section 17 of the same link:

quote:

(c) Pursuant to a two-thirds vote of the membership of each house of the legislature, institutions of higher education may be created at a later date by general law, and, when created, such an institution shall be entitled to participate in the funding provided by this section if it is not created as a part of The University of Texas System or The Texas A&M University System. An institution that is entitled to participate in dedicated funding provided by Article VII, Section 18, of this constitution may not be entitled to participate in the funding provided by this section

Governor Sul Ross voided the section you quoted while he was governor. As the story goes, a legistator proposed that the A&M Campus be made a permanent part of the other school. Ross said no, so the legislator threatened to make it a mental hospital. Sul Ross then knocked him out with one punch and the argument ended there.

The 2-flagship system is unique to Texas and Michigan. Every other state has all its public schools under one university system.

Examples:

Alabama and Auburn
Florida and Florida State
Cal and UCLA
Arizona and Arizona State
UNC and NC State
Kansas and Kansas State
Washington and Washington State

Texas has always operated like "We're Texas...you come to us..." Big State, gobs of talent, and you can't do better than the last two years? Take the Texas Shine off and what you have is a so-so program that is going nowhere in a nowhere conference. TAMU saw the light and got out.

So again, they take their Junior Day for granted, for the recruits to come and lay prostrate at the altar of Mack Brown and beg of his acceptance....no I'm NOT SHOCKED about this....the shine is off....Brown probably doesn't even know how to sell Texas.....

Then I stand corrected. Does Auburn have their own university system though?

A&M has 11 in their system, Texas has 16.

the THE is part of the name.

I had a supervisee, graduate of THE Ohio State University. She used to sing the fricking fight song on Monday mornings.
