5* threads on portal recruits’ HS star rankings are wholly misleading

Threads carrying 5* headlines (from their HS playing days years ago) on portal players are wholly misleading and are Rants, not a serious discussion of recruiting.

Bama just got an DL today - Devan Thompkins. He was a 3* in HS but now has a higher portal ranking (at 4*) than Tre Wilson (.9400 to .9300 according to 247) - the WR LSU just picked up.

It goes the other way too.

Jaylen Mbakwe From Alabama is listed as a 4* transfer. Why? Yes, he was listed as a 5* in HS but has been at Alabama for two years and rarely reached the field. When there, has been average to below-average.

It’s just not accurate at all to portray players as 5*s when we have tape and years of play on them now.

There are very little 5 star players in the portal - most are going to be less, and even waaaaay less, than that.
