Do you think your staff makes, and keeps, recruiting promises that negatively impact your offense? From the outside looking in, it appears that they do, but I was wondering if Georgia fans felt this as well.
No, they promise nothing except if you come in and work hard you'll get a fair shot.

The problem is it's a four quarter game and we haven't learned to finish. You're not going to beat a team like Alabama by trying to hold a lead for two quarters. You have to score in the 4th.

Georgia has done a good job of closing the talent gap in the starting 22 but we still have a ways to go with depth. It will take a couple more classes to fill the 85 w/ the talent required to overcome injuries and play 4Qs with them. Were close but I do feel if we keep recruiting like we have we can get it done. Time will tell.

Or ya know he can come to Alabama and split carriers with Najee and be a 1,000 yard rusher as a freshman.
And he might could do that. However, has Alabama had two 1,000 yard rushers? I honestly don't know. Georgia is about to do it for the second year in a row. Swift already has 1,000 and Holyfield is something like 44 yards short.

Hey, i don't think anybody can argue that both schools are great for any running back to go to. If I recall correctly, Alabama has had 1 or 2 Heisman running backs.

Yep its not like he will screw up picking either program. Both can get him where he wants to go.

What promises do you think our staff makes? According to most accounts that's literally something we *don't* do... Rumors were that Aubrey Solomon's mom was pissed we wouldn't guarantee him playing time and we were *super* thin at DL 2 years ago when we were recruiting him. If we wouldn't do it for him, when would we?

I honestly don't think they promised Fields anything (if that is what you are referring to). I do believe they were not sure how to handle the situation, though. I think they honestly expected him to come in and take the job, but he was not as polished as they thought. Just a guess.

I don't know. That's why I'm asking you. It just seemed like at times, you were trying to get guys touches at the expense of the offensive rhythm. Granted I only saw a few of your games from start to finish. But against LSU, I couldn't understand why Herrien was getting any touches or why Cook was getting snaps. And obviously, every time Fields was inserted I was delighted.

I love to follow recruiting it is fun to see where and why these kids go where these kids go. But here are two facts I know to be true. 1. No matter what happens from this point forward, the 2019 recruiting classes for Bama and UGA are both going to be great classes. 2. No one knows crap about where these kids are going, including all posters from all teams posting on every message board in America, and the people who are supposed sources. Now some will guess correctly, but none of you are getting your information from the players, none of you are getting your information from the coaches, and no one you are talking to is getting information from them either, because they are not talking.

Fields and Cook.
Cook...I think with him they are bringing him along much like Sony Michel. Michel came in like Cook as a smaller back and put on a good amount of weight in the form of muscle. I think they are just trying to give Cook some touches in anticipation of his gaining weight and being ready for a larger role. Cook had flashes where he looked really, really good. He's just a bit small to carry a significant load.
In short...I honestly don't think they made promises, but nobody could say definitively. I would be surprised if they did, though, since Isaiah Wilson was red shirted last year.
ETA
Herrien is a legit back and has made tremendous strides. he could probably start fro 8-9 SEC Schools.

Its kind of crazy how far ahead they are from the rest of the pack. W/ Urban gone its only going to get worse.

I wasn't meaning to put Herrien down. I honestly didn't know how low he was ranked until just now when I looked him up to get the spelling of his name correct.
But, when y'all played LSU, Holyfield and Swift were absolutely murdering us and Herrien was definitely not anywhere near their level.

Chaney very clearly got outcoached/smarted in that game. He got away from Holyfield pounding for God only knows what reason. He got baited into calling too many passing plays and/or RPOs that for whatever reason, Jake was consistently reading as pass. But nothing about that game seemed like we made any promises to guys. Herrien earns his time on the field, and at times has looked really sharp... his issue is that for whatever reason, blocking seems to breakdown on his plays a lot more. I think I saw a stat that said of all the UGA RBs his average yards before contact were the lowest... meaning he's pretty consistently getting hit in the backfield. I dunno whether that's on him, the line, or the playcalling...
As far as Cook goes, he's shown that he's electric in space and I think that was the hope... try to get Cook in space to open things up... it just didn't work.
Fields utilization has been baffling this year. IMO, they actually set him back by using him in pure gimmick running packages instead of just letting him run a series here or there with run "outs" but intended passes... by the time they did it the 3rd or 4th time in the season, I doubt a single DC respected anything other than Justin tucking and running or a pure play deep fake so you could leave one safety to cover the deep thread and otherwise play it as a typical running play.

nono. I didn't take it that way at all. My bad!

quote:Seems like he was a 3* or something, but if I remember correctly, he was injured a whole year and rated pretty low....much like DJ Williams probably should have been rated higher.

quote:Typically he comes in from time to time. he can absolutely run over people, but is more of a speed back. Just a guess...I think he is an incredibly hard worker and the coaches wanted to make sure he got some touches in most, if not all the games. The LSU game was a maddening game for us. LSU did a great job preparing for that game.
