There's a big difference in being a WR1 when you have Moncrief and Treadwell on your team than a WR1 for....say....teams like Southern Miss or MSU.
You're comparing apples to oranges. State, as of now, utilizes a few completely different types of receivers. Going into next year our top 2 are going to be Derunnya Wilson and Jameon Lewis, both have the potential to have huge years but one is well under 6'0 and the other is 6'6. Moncrief and Treadwell are playing at least similar roles. We also are in a run first offense, Dak and our RB's will get the ball more times than not. Lastly Mullen's teams tend to spread the ball to more receivers than you guys do (generally 18-20 guys catch balls in a season), your argument has its merits but its not as cut and dry as you make it.

this'll be fun......
Let's have a look at the top 4 WRs of each teams this past season.
Out of the 3178 total yards for MSU WRs.
Lewis 29%
R.Johnson 12%
M.Johnson 12%
Perkins 8%
And out of the 3683 total yards for OM WRs.<- only 500 yards difference isn't much if you're claiming MSU as a "run-first" offense and that we're not.
Donte 25%
Treadwell 16%
Logan 15%
Walton 8%
So we, in fact, spread the ball around more than MSU.

You guys looked real prolific last year.

Shouldn't you look at receptions...not yards?

False. Our top 4 accumulate for 61% of the catches vs 64% for OM. In a year that we were very shallow on receiver depth due to graduating 3 starting seniors.

Since you added this late.....MSU had 19(including Dak) players catch passes last season. Ole Miss had 16(including Bro).
Not exactly mention-worthy. Especially considering 8 of those for MSU caught less than 5 passes the entire season. Whereas only 5 OM players caught less than 5 passes.

Yards, brah.
I used percentage so no one could claim the "but we run more" card.

But spreading it around would be who is catching the ball and how many times they are catching it. So you would look at receptions...not yards.
ETA: Actually you would probably want to look at thrown to...but I am not sure where you can find that stat.

I think I am going to become a BYU fan. They probably don't have to deal with this.

The narrative among MSU fans regarding our passing/receiving stats last year was that screen passes "skewed" what the stats really were. So, essentially, I gave MSu the benefit of the doubt in using yardage instead of catches.
....which yardage is much more important in terms of actual production.

As far as receptions go, last year we had 10 players catch 5 or more passes and 8 catch TD passes. In 2012 there were 12 that caught 5+ passes and 8 that caught TD's.

Their rivalry is called the holy war so you'd be mistaken

If you throw to a guy 20 times for a combined 20 yards. Is that really a relevant stat?
And like I said....it's a common theme that our screen passes inflate our stats so I wanted to circumvent that argument. That would have been the first thing mentioned if I would have gone by catches.

But what if you throw to him 100 times for 100 yards? That's a double-triple

we had 11 players catch 5 or more passes and 10 catch a TD. In 2012, there only had 8 catch 5 or more passes but we had 10 catch TDs.
so....yeah.

Well it is when you are trying to determine who spreads it around more. To me spreading it around is referring to who gets the most passes thrown towards them. Not breakdown of yards.

I was just making the point that we like to throw it to a lot of guys, I think Mullen's goal when he got here was 8+ TD targets?

I think it's a bit of both. Like I said.....a guy catching 20 screens at a yard per catch skews this stat. But Treadwell is the one accused of mostly catching screen passes(which he did catch a ton...and turn into 6-7 yard gains)...he should have much less of a percentage of yardage as the number 2 guy for us than your number 2 guy did for you.
