Auburn finally has a relentless recruiter. We’ve watched Saban and Kirby work their butts off. Meanwhile, our previous coaches just stood by and let it happen. Not the case with Freeze.

Roller coaster recruitment for Phillips?

Committing to Auburn and Freeze on Wednesday was a big change in plans and change of heart for Phillips. Less than 24 hours before, he was planning to head to the SEC East.

“I was about to commit to Georgia (on Tuesday),” he said.

Phillips had been high on the Bulldogs since an official visit on June 2-4. He even told Freeze during an unofficial visit to Auburn last week.

“(Freeze) knew what was up when I came up to visit last week,” he said. “I told him I was leaning towards Georgia. I didn’t sugarcoat it. We have a good relationship, so I can tell him anything and I told him what’s up. I told him UGA is where my head was at.”

So Auburn turned up the heat.

“They did a good job of rebuilding and restoring things,” he said. “We weren’t ever off, but I did feel like they were slacking a little bit.”

Hmmmmmm……wonder what happened?

Kinda strange right? Not as strange as Pickens being committed to Auburn forever and then flipping on signing day out of nowhere, but hey.

No offense, Long Dawg, but NIL is perfectly legal. Any team in the country can offer money now. It is a part of the recruiting process.

Instead of acting upset (not sure if you are upset, but you sound like you are) just congratulate Auburn on recruiting a guy we wanted and move on. People that want to scream, "They paid!" are acting like the other team is doing something underhanded and/or illegal. It is not. They recruited hard and won.

Where did I say it wasn’t legal?

I am simply pointing out what turned the recruitment at the last minute- that’s all.

All part of the recruiting game now, unfortunately.

The Pickens situation from a few years ago, pre NIL, could be questionable though. Ask your coaches about that one.

We dont flame here, but what do you actually think it was that swung his interest from Auburn to UGA first? He was almost a lock to Auburn, visits UGA, then completely 180s and is about to commit to UGA. You think that was just because he likes red and black colors?

UGA ponied up NIL, but mama answered and he came home. This is all legal and the name of the game now, but I think your "pointing" is better directed at your own program regarding Phillips.

We did a better job recruiting. Not sure why that seems to get your panties in a bunch.
