He distinctly said grades were not brought up until after the flip, making it seem like Bama fans were using it as an excuse and not the truth.

Bro, it’s a casual discussion going on. My team got a player they wanted. Why on earth would I be on edge.

The more likely story is Bama had some recruits higher up on their board and they wanted him to wait. There has been no mention from Bama insiders until yesterday that grades may be an issue. Does that not seem fishy to you that it just now came up?

Usually for respect of the kid, this is how it goes down. Just shows if those mods had info, they were classy enough to hold it back. The truth is muddy at best in recruiting.

Higher up but fought to get him committed? They wanted him depending on his grades.

Usually when a kid is struggling academically people know it and the would gets out. We knew about Wyatt last year before NSD. It may be kept quiet but it usually comes out way before it comes time to put the pen to the paper.

I posted in the stickied thread a few times yesterday quotes from the guardian about why he hadn't signed a LOI at that point.

These were from Chris Kirschner of SEC Country.

quote:

•9:19 a.m. ET — Nadab Joseph, a 4-star cornerback commit, tells SEC Country that he may not sign today. This is a surprise. Working on finding out more

•9:39 a.m. ET — Nadab Joseph’s guardian tells SEC Country that he still plans on enrolling early and that he just wants to do his signing “the traditional way,” which means signing in February. That tells me that he may or may not be ready to actually graduate from high school just yet.

•1:49 p.m. ET — Spoke with Nadab Joseph’s guardian just now. He has seen the reports of Joseph still considering Georgia. To his knowledge, Alabama is the school he’ll be signing with. It’s just a matter of when he’ll actually do that now. They are supposed to talk once Joseph gets home from school.

So the possibility of academic concerns were being discussed before he flipped to UGa.

Granted, you said usually, but I'm only trying to help you out my man. Can't elaborate, but that goes to prove your usually theory I guess

What am I missing then? All that says is he may not be able to be an EE. It doesn’t say he is in danger of not qualifying.

Unless I'm reading something wrong, graduating and enrolling early are not the same as academic concerns regarding qualification... Again... I'm not doubting that he may be a bit of a qual risk... but for it to come out now does reek of sour grapes more so than any real "reason"... Personally don't give a shite, but the way it's been brought up and commented on by some in this thread, it does come across as poor form from a fanbase that IMO should be above it.

He likely does qualify but Alabama was asking him to wait to make certain. The Alabama staff had already used their chance on a academic concern with Barmore. Like your fellow UGa poster said, Alabama gambled with Barmore. Georgia with Joseph.

I'm referring to that kind of information (grades) not necessarily being known, even after the silent period, by fans.
A few other situations around, that nobody's mentioning, are my point

Every signee is a gamble. That's why evaluations off the field are so valuable.

B.J. Edmond was thought to be a academic concern for UGA but flipped to Bama. Somebody please explain to me how this work.

BJ Emmons is who I assume you're referring to. He was referenced previously. Nothing to see here.

Well, he did commit to Alabama 8 months before NSD 2016. Not the day of NSD.

My point was UGA was thought to have backed off because of grades and Bama having said to back off a UGA signee.

I just think it is hard to compare the situations with a reduced timeline now.

Alabama took Emmons commitment in July 2015, and watched his academic progress until NSD 2016. There were plenty of rumors then that he would be pushed out.

Alabama took a chance on Emmons and Raekwon Davis in that 2016 class. I don't think you have the luxury to gamble on multiple prospects with any amount of academic concerns with an early signing period now.

Now there's rumors coming from the Ohio State side that Emory Jones might have grade issues too.
