We dropped a couple spots in the 2018 recruiting rankings with Thompson decommitting, tennessee passed us in the rankings. I don't know what the reason for him not coming here but he will be a day 1 starter at WR or DB for the Vols, big time player.

In 37 years of coaching, Tom Knotts has coached some great football players. The list includes Chris Leak, Brian Knuckles, Hakeem Nicks, Mohamed Massaquoi and Joe Cox from his time coaching in North Carolina. Since he has been at Dutch Fork, he has coached the likes of Lane Ecton, Jordan Berry, Chad Geter and Matt Colburn among others.

Those players have lofty credentials. Some who have gone on to play in college, win national titles and play in the NFL.

But according to Knotts, none of them were better than senior receiver/defensive back Bryce Thompson, who has played a big role in helping Dutch Fork to its fifth state title appearance in the past seven seasons. “He is the best I’ve coached in 37 years,” Knotts said. “Bryce can do anything. In addition to his abundance of talent, he has a determination that is unmatched by any player I have ever coached. Everybody says they want to win and got the will to win, Bryce is determined. He is the most determined player I ever coached. He is not going to be denied.”

Behavioral issues are more likely, or drugs, or behavioral drug issues.

We really shouldn't get into the rumors here ... but you living in Irmo selling insurance - I mean everyone down Harbinson knows what he did and it was definitely all of the above.

1 - Bad study habits = behavioral issues (even though he tried harder his senior year and obviously has the ability).

2 - Liked to smoke the ganja = behavioral issues (even though he evidently quit doing that his senior year, which is good).

3 - Troubles with a girl = behavioral issues (even though no charges have been brought and I tend to believe that, unless charges are brought, it's a nothing burger).

We hung with him and tried to help him for a long time. Sometimes it's just better for a kid to get out of town and start a new life with a clean slate somewhere else.

You don't have to look far from Lake Murray Drive to Harbinson to St Andrews Road for someone to fill you in on every little detail about this kid's behavioral issues ... but I'll tell you what, he may have been the best football player in this state last season. He's that good. He's just got some ... behavioral issues.

I still hope he turns it around.

Clearly something happened and it wasn't about academics. If he qualified at Tennessee, he should have qualified at South Carolina.

Not.even.close. All programs are independent in their qualifications and ours are definitely stricter than Tennessee's. I'm not saying one school is better academically than the other ... although SC is based upon rankings and graduation rates and etc., etc., etc., but our compliance department is just a bitch. Holtz threatened to quit over it and Spurrier threatened to quit over it and Boom has already had one major run-in with them that I know of and another where he just laid down the law and said enough is enough and some changes were made.

Two completely different animals when it comes to getting athletes in school.

Convenient that this is the first time it's been mentioned, the day it's announced he's enrolled at Tennessee. If he enrolled at Arizona or Marshall, I suspect "grade issues" would be the agreed upon reason for him not being at South Carolina.

Dude, come on man. Everyone knew about it ... no one wanted to say it publicly. No one wishes bad things for the kid. Gamecock fans, arojnd here at least, are and always will be the last people to trash a player on rumors when no charges have been brought.

Y'all got a helluvan athlete. A serious ballplayer. Incredible talent. Fearless, oblivious to pain.

I was able to watch the Dutch Fork vs. Fort Dorchester playoff game this past year. I was really excited at the idea of those 2 being on the same team in college after seeing them in person.

I watched one of his highlight videos, very impressed.

I think we need to get him a big brother type mentor to help him get on a good path.

I still can't figure out how some fan taking a photo and posting it on social media wound up being in your actual newspaper. I know it's the offseason and reporters are desperate for stories but that was bizarre.

His film is just nasty (the one on YouTube, I had to mute because the music is terrible).

Hard to tell how fast he is, he looks fast, but I'm more impressed with the pile of broken ankles he left on Dutch Fork's field. Good lord.

Really hope he keeps his head on straight because it would be a damn shame to waste that kind of talent.

I find it hard to believe that a rape accusation of a star football player at Dutch Fork wouldn't make the news, in 2018, the zenith of the #metoo movement.

Behavioral issues are more likely, or drugs, or behavioral drug issues.

It's both really. What 247 technically said was that Muschamp backed off because of the off the field stuff, but that the grades in and of themselves should/would have kept him from being eligible.

Grades were not as big of an issue as people make them out to be...he is a modern day Derek Watson....he will either fill a stadium or clean it. That is up to him and how he moves forward with his life.

Edit: i hope he does well, just not against us

It was mainly bc our fb players and coaches along with A'ja Wison and a few other athletes got involved, as well.

Truth.

Back in the 90's, I lost one of my best friends to the Crack epidemic. He wasn't a user, but a runner for his uncle who was a dealer. Crashed his car on a curvy Mtn Road trying to get away from the police. He was killed in the wreck. A small, economically depressed town in the south. Kid never had a chance.

Good luck to Bryce in Knoxville.

That's a good comparison I think ... except for one thing. Derek came from such a poor background. Shack for a home, no power, no running water, slept on a floor with nothing but a blanket.

Thompson does not come from that kind of poverty.

Saw where Thompson literally said/tweeted that we're (USC) "gunna pay for dis for the next 4 years" ... and therein lies another big difference between Thompson and Watson.
