LA 3* players are all over the NFL. I really like the pickup fwiw. The guys on the LSU site had good things to say about his commitment and the type of player he has the potential to be going forward. He will red shirt and be behind several guys for the first few years regardless.

Gotcha. He's done a better than average job of developing players.

I've heard of him (which says a lot, because I haven't heard of most of the guys LSU doesn't offer). The school he's at and the part of the NOLA metro area he's in produce a ridiculous amount of talent.
Without having seen his film, I can imagine he's underrated as a 3 star.

Sutton is Tennessee's only real difference maker who was not very highly sought after.
This 2017 class is horrendous so far.

Cam Sutton was a 3* -- Not a top 300 player
Reeves-Maybin was the lowest rated 4* they offer (90) and not a top 15 player at his position. -- Not a top 250 player
Derek Barnett was a 91 4* -- Not a top 200 player. & Nobody expected him to turn into the player that he has. Let's be honest.
Hurd and Kamara were both "highly sought after".
On the 2017 recruiting class -- I didn't realize that signing day was in the middle of September. Bad news for us I suppose due to the fact that 5* OL Trey Smith was going to pull the trigger in December.

Appreciate the insight. It's wild how loaded with talent the state of LA is.

STOP TRYING TO MAKE ME FEEL BETTER DAMNIT, I WANT TO MELT

The issue for UT isn't so much this particular 3*. It's that they have 21 3*s.
Melt away. You're welcome.

Both Barnett and Reeves-Maybin were composite top 250 players with very strong offer lists. Barnett chose Tennessee over Ohio State for frick's sake.
You can be happy with 21 2 and 3 stars but it is very likely not going to get it done especially with Butch's very poor gameday coaching abilities.
It is looking like it will be a very top heavy class, which is what Dooley loved to put together. Some of the guys at the bottom of the commitment list are laughably bad takes iwabh.

Reeves Maybin was just outside of the top 250 on composite. There are 5 1/2 months until NSD. A lot will change between now and then, but in general I agree with you that this class is top heavy right now. I think that will change, but to what extent I don't know. From this year forward Butch will consistently start putting guys in the league. He gets credit for getting them here and then seeing them have successful careers and enjoy playing in the NFL. Whether he is here long term or is let go because he has trouble winning the big games, he will be putting players back into the NFL consistently which is a success no matter how you look at it. It's obvious that he leaves a lot to be desired in the coaching department, but you are under selling him on player development and recruiting based off of where we are in mid September.

Ethan Wolf, Vickers, Sutton, Smith, Robertson, Hall, Kendrick, Jumper (LOL JK).
All 3* players that have turned into really good options.

Wasn't Vickers a 2*? Now he's one of our best bodies at DT

It's due to the sheer volume of 3* recruits each year. It's like when UF fans brag about a 3* from south Dade. Look at Randy Shannon. He had a loaded team when he took over Miami and in turn filled with 3* recruits. He got 3* results. You can't win in the SEC consistently when Bama, UGA, LSU, Auburn, Tamu and even UF are getting classes full of 4/5* kids. Jones needs all the talent he can get to mask his subpar staff. It's what pisses me off about Mac's last class. Great recruits need great coaches and vice versa.

This is his first class without a pretty high volume of highly rated kids. Last year's wasn't that impressive to me, but it could turn out okay.

He's never had a class full of sheer 3* recruits.
This class might be, but it's September. Long ways to go with at least a 5* committing in December. It's Florida under Mac who hasn't recruited up to its potential when considering the program.
