I’m wrong all the time. It’s recruiting.

The kid is up to 6’3 270. Bama will have him playing at 285 in no time. That’s about a normal sized DE for us. And his arms look perfectly normal, not freakishly short like some UGA fans are saying. UGA fans sound worried that their staff messed this one up and Bama got a steal out of their back yard. And I think they’re right.

No one is worried. We trust our staff and if he wasn't a good fit here, that's fine. Doesn't mean he won't be great at Bama

One of your fellow dawg fans in this thread admits he is concerned about it, so you’re incorrect. And no offense, but if he ends up being great at Bama, he also would have been a great fit at UGA. Especially since Kirby’s defense is just a rip off of Saban’s philosophy. Either Kirby screwed this up, or Saban is taking a chance on a player he shouldn’t have. We will all know for sure in about 3-4 years but I wouldn’t bet against Saban as a talent evaluator, especially on defense.

Because in all the years Smart and Saban coached together Kirby didn’t help develop the defense that Saban implements or anything. What a dumbass statement.

Or was Kirby the true evaluator? I would bet against Saban on this one

I think Kirby and staff just really feel good about where we are with other DL targets like Travon Walker, Justin Eboigde, Bill Norton (commit), Jaelin Humphries, Rambo Hunter, and others. The DL talent in-state is actually looking fairly deep for us this year, we can afford to be a little picky.

Because that’s proven to be a smart move.

So you are confusing one chicken little fan with a whole fan base? Not very smart.

Once again, I'm not saying he won't be good, but Kirby probably has a good feeling about guys higher on our board. That's recruiting.

He’s just not your typical Saban D-lineman. Cheney has short arms, is smaller in stature and rumor is he takes plays off. I’m more curious, considering the enormous success of Saban, what is UGA and Auburn missing? Again, this guy could turn out to be another Bama 1rd pick, it’s just a weird recruitment. I hope I didn’t come off as knocking the guy, I’m just accustomed to Bama getting the pick of the litter.

Not sure where you got this from (short arms), but it's completely inaccurate. The two things the Bama staff like most about him are his quickness and his long arms for his size. He supposedly has the wingspan of someone 6'5"+. You must be confusing him with a different recruit.

Is it EVER a good idea to bet against Saban or Kuligowski? Every coach misses on some recruiting evals (several, in fact). But we all know about Saban. And Kuligowski is pretty much universally considered the best talent evaluator/developer in the game today.

No, they really won’t. Even if Kirby has A higher ranked class it won’t prove that he was the “true talent evaluator.” It will probably just mean that Kirby did his job keeping elite guys home. Which I expect to happen. Saban was a great talent evaluator before Kirby and I bet he’ll continue to be a great one.

He was committed to Georgia, then Alabama. Where is he making his third "commitment?"
