The biggest problem with Roof was that we never truly ran his defense except for a decent portion of 2010. There really isn't a way to successfully combine Roof's and Chizik's defensive philosophies.

quote:What's his excuse in 2010? We had a great run defense, but a terrible pass defense. We pretty much stacked the box and forced people to pass, and hoped they'd finally make the "mistake" at the end of the game (and most did). However, it always kept our team on the ropes. We've done better with less in the past.

Part of the blame also lies with Thigpen and Lolley. Our db's were out of position far more often than any other group on defense. They looked poorly coached at almost all times.

Yeah our back 7 has looked pretty poor in pass coverage as a whole the last 3 years.

I can't wait to see guys like Florence, Therezie, and Whitehead out there. It's going to be a really, really interesting season.

Yeah all three had very solid freshman campaigns lets see how they look under the new regime. Florence is a ball hawk for sure.

He has the makings to be a lock down corner, even only standing 5'9. I'm not convinced he couldn't be a good safety too. Dude is straight jacked.

I'm pumped to see the whole look to the defense this year. Who are we looking at as probable starters in the secondary? With Neiko gone I just don't know who could possibly play well enough to earn starting time...

Florence and McNeal would be my guess at safety. Chris Davis, Therezie, and TBell will all get considerable time at corner, and Whitehead will be the nickel and possibly safety if need be. It's going to be really interesting to see how we utilize the talent we have back there.

I sure hope McNeal take better angles to the ball this year. It was very frustrating watching him try to make tackles in the open field.

It was downright pitiful at times. He and Eltoro both couldn't choose a proper angle if their lives depended on it. I was so psyched about McNeal in '10, but he really disappointed me last year.

I'm ready to see an attacking Auburn defense on the field this year.
