Luper is very well thought of in some coaching circles. He's a guy that could get his shot as an OC somewhere this off-season. Perhaps Chiz (rightfully) didn't want to stretch on someone further down their board simply bc his dad is on staff when he knows there is a real chance that prospect's father coaches elsewhere in the next year or two

So are you saying my bagman theory is wrong? damn it

I could be completely wrong, but don't children of universities employees in the state of Alabama get some sort of break on tuition? I say that because I know a couple of people who's parents teach or are employed by the University of Montevallo and UAB and their tuition is covered. It could be the reason Cam Luper hasn't been offered a scholly. Not real sure if that applies in this case though.

serious question...why did we take Lemond Johnson and not Cam Luper..Cam is more athletic and is also a QB in HS and is the step-son of curtis..I dont get it..He's raw, but athletic as h

Because Van Gorder really likes what he sees in Lemond. He's also going to be an early enrolee and his dad is his coach, and will be his DB coach this year.

If Luper comes to Auburn, we either missed on a bunch of guys, or his dad pays his way.

I did a quick google search and came up with this. It's for the UAT, but I'm sure AU offers something similar to it's employees. My point being that because Cam's father is a university employee, there may be no need to offer him a scholly since he may qualify for other tuition benefits. LINK

quote:

After eligible employees have been employed six (6) continuous months, spouses or sponsored adult dependents, dependent children, and sponsored dependent children may receive an amount to assist with educational costs equal to 50% of the tuition costs at the standard on-campus, in-state tuition rate for eligible courses.

EDIT: Link to AU employee benefits. LINK

quote:

Dependents and spouses of full-time regular employees are eligible for a 50 percent remission of tuition for resident courses offered at the University.

i'm sure cam luper could go to auburn for free or for basically arse pennies compared to regular tuition...but wouldn't that still count against scholarship numbers. Seems like that's the case for two sport athletes so we couldn't just stash 8 other football players on basketball scholarships (even if it was an improvement to the hoops team).

In general, if a recruited prospect receives any kind of financial assistance from a university (i.e. academic scholarship, track scholarship, etc...), he will still count against the scholarship limits for football even if he does not receive a football scholarship. Not quite sure on what constitutes a "recruited prospect" though.

Bama is always tight on scholarships and if we could have avoided counting Vinnie Sunseri because his dad was a coach then I'm sure we would have but by all accounts he is on football scholarship.

I guess it all depends on how the NCAA chooses to view coaches and their dependents. I'm sure there is a bylaw in the NCAA rulebook somewhere that deals with it, but damn if i know where to look.

2014 DB Nick Glass, committed to UGA, is visiting Auburn tomorrow, and Shaq Wiggins, another UGA DB commit may visit with him. Another product of Lawson and Liner's recruiting at the Five Star Challenge.

Those two, along with Tray Matthews, Reuben Foster, Khaliel Rodgers, Kenny Bigelow, and OJ Howard were some of the big targets that Liner and Lawson wanted to recruit for Auburn this weekend

Nice offer list but he is a Tennessee or Bama lock. Why should we even waste our time?

I might have a surprise for everyone if my buddy can make something happen here in the next couple minutes, hours, or days...

Stay tuned.

I can say nothing more.

I have never been this excited about a recruiting class at Auburn and I have been following it closely for about 15 years.

Just trust me. This has nothing to do with recruiting news on a prospect. But it would definitely help this thread. Just stay tuned. I'm not making any promises, but my buddy is hard at work on this.
