When did RSJ become interested in Bama?

posted this on the UGA post, but y'all are in it for Tunsil too so I thought I'd put it here too...
Apparently Tunsil's trip to Fla. didn't go real well...

All of the posts are VIP except the last one but it sounds not good for gates....

No kidding....."I really didn't do nothing"......That comment actually says something. No pun intended on his grammar.

IDK but after he decommited from UT, a couple of different LSU posters came over here and stated that he was in interested in Bama and asked what we've heard wrt him. Other than that, there hasn't been much talk about him ITT

IDK how much it really means to lead this early but it can't be a bad thing. Hopefully we can land 2 out of Knox, Robinson, and Taylor.

I get the feeling that we will land Roderick Taylor. He's visited Bama a lot and although he says he doesn't have any leaders, I still think we may be on top. He's visited twice for camp already and already has plans to come back.
Robinson could be an interesting battle but LSU has been recruiting him since he was a freshman. I think at the end LSU will get his commitment.
With Knox it can't hurt to be his leader this early. Texas slow played Maurice Smith and we snatched him away. If we could get Knox on a few visits this fall and maybe A Day next year you never know, it may be possible to pull him out of Texas as well.

It's going to be hard to pull him from Texas

The odd thing is just this past week Knox visited Ohio State and Texas. He hasn't visited Bama yet but has us as his leader after visiting Ohio State and Texas. Maybe a visit will help us even more.

I could be wrong, but I think another meh year and UT could start to lose it's death grip on in-state talent. Even in the '13 class A&M and Baylor seem to be doing better going to head to head with UT than in the past. Just something to keep an eye on moving forward.

Nah, Texas will always get first dibs on who they want in state. They haven't done well the past 2 years on the field yet continue to pull in top classes. There is a great amout of talent in that state though so teams like A&M and Baylor won't fall too far behind.

JMO but I don't think it is a luster can't be lost. It has already taken a hit. Mack Brown is in the twilight of his career, and all those 10 win seasons and Vince Young and the national championship are in the rearview mirror. At the very least, UT is having to work harder than it used to...

There's no doubt that they will always do well in recruiting, but I'm not convinced they'll always have 90% of the top in-state prospects lining up to commit like they've had the last several years. UT (as a university and football program) obviously has several built-in advantages that aren't going to change and will continue to make them desirable for many in-state prospects, but if they start to lose that "it" factor then they will start to lose recruits just like any other program IMO.

Texas still gets first dibs always I agree with the poster above. But with so much talent in the state their isn't a big drop off.

Hope Mills (N.C.) South View defensive tackle Greg Gilmore was one of the top class of 2013 prospects to participate in Alabama’s linemen camp over the weekend. The camp gave the 6-foot-4, 273-pounder an opportunity to work one-on-one with defensive line coach/area recruiter Chris Rumph as well as head coach Nick Saban.
“I got there Friday and chilled with Coach Rumph for a little bit. This was my second time at Alabama- I came for the LSU game. I think the difference this time around was the personal time with Coach Saban and Coach Rumph. They really taught me a lot. I’m a better player today because of Coach Saban,” said Gilmore.
“I got so much knowledge from Coach Saban, Coach Rumph, and the rest of the coaching staff. They were helping me out without me even asking. I was on sponge-mode in the one-on-ones, because I didn’t do anything that I’ve done before. I had some fun, honestly.”
Gilmore cited his time with Saban as one of the highlights of his time in Tuscaloosa.
“I met with Coach Saban after the first session and then during the one-on-one’s he was pretty much coaching me the whole time. They’ll recruit you different than anybody else- they’ll tell you what you need to work on and they’re going to come after you. I think that they loved me out there and I loved them.”
The four-star prospect has a top three of LSU, Florida, and Alabama with the Tigers remaining on top.
“It’s LSU, Florida, and Alabama. I think LSU has a little bit of separation, because the relationship I have with the coaches is so strong. The whole Baton Rouge community and my Tiger Nation fans, they love me and that’s what puts LSU over the hump. When it comes to facilities, coaching, preparing you for the NFL, and winning national championships, I think all three of those teams have it all. I think the relationship I have with Brick (Haley) and Coach (John) Chavis is strong right now.”
While Gilmore admits he’s ready to get the process behind him, he hopes to make a few more trips with members of his inner circle before coming to a decision.
“It’s going to be a hard decision, I’ll just say that. I need to get my dad down to Alabama, my mom down to LSU, and my dad down to Florida. They’ve all been by themselves when we went before, but I need to switch it up and see how they like each one. I can make my decision off that.
“I’m not going to visit any new schools. I’m going to take my time and make my decision off these three, maybe four schools with Clemson. Honestly, I do want to get it out of the way, but it’s hard. I want to make an informed decision and my mom wants to get down to LSU, but it’s such a long drive. I need to get my mom, my dad, and my coach all together and get their help on this decision.”
Gilmore has a grade of 94 from 247Sports and is ranked as the no. 8 defensive tackle and no. 107 prospect in the nation, regardless of position.

That is all you need to know right there. Translation if UA misses on some bigger targets he will be ours. If not we will let him go to FSU.
