Marquez White talks UA offer
By Andrew Bone
Marquez White, three-star cornerback from Northview High School in Dothan, Ala., gave a commitment to Florida State. He reeled in an offer on Friday from the University of Alabama. Dies this change anything for one of the best prospects in his home state?
"I now have a committable offer from Alabama,” said Marquez White. “Coach Saban talked to me about a lot of stuff. He really stressed academics. He told me he wanted to offer me as an athlete. He thinks I am just as good as a receiver.
“He was kind of upset because I said I was going to commit to Alabama if they offered. Then I committed to Florida State. He wants me to come back as many times as I can. I plan on going back July 15 to visit.”
The new scholarship offer gives White a little more to think about between now and the first Wednesday in February.
"I think I will make my final decision on signing day,” he said. "Alabama just got a commitment from Maurice Smith. They also have a player from New Jersey [Anthony Averett]. Coach Saban told me he will let me know if I need to make a decision.”
The Seminoles did not hesitate to offer White who jumped on the chance to play college football in Tallahassee. An in-state SEC school decided to wait and take a closer look at camp before extending an offer.
"It’s a really big offer,” White said of Alabama. "In terms of wins and losses along with academics I think they are the best program in the nation. Just knowing I live in the state and having them want me is big.”
White talked with Florida State Saturday night about the new offer.
"I talked to coach Craig last night,” he said. “He wanted to know if I was still with them. I told him I am definitely still committed. Florida State and Alabama are the only two schools I am considering.”

He liked LSU and hadn't really visited anywhere else, his mom wants him a lot closer which really closest is UF and he fits better as a 34 DE, his recruitment is far from over but staff pushed harder than they have before for him this weekend at OL/DL camp and staff now feels confident they have a pretty good shot at landing him. Seems like a few more guys got attention this past weekend with the shocking commitment of Nkemdckey to Clemson. He is bringing his mom and HC back in a month (Mom has only visited UF and hasn't even visited LSU)
Hope that helped

No prob buddy
FTR I think LSU still is in his top 3 (with Bama and UF) and LSU seems a bit far to Mom who is pushing staying closer so we may both lose out to UF despite what he wants to do, but if Les and whoever else is recruiting him can talk Mom into coming on campus and make her feel easier about it etc LSU still has a pretty good chance. Bama has just turned up the heat

6'1" is fairly tall for CB... Maybe CNS really likes his size for the position.

The home-state Georgia Bulldogs once led for Brendan Langley, then some thought they had been eliminated a month ago. What is Langley thinking now? Could UGA offering his teammate help? Get the latest here.
quote:
Brendan Langley admits there was an "issue" with Georgia, but that is as far as he wants to go with the details.
The one-time leader Georgia Bulldogs and Langley have "resolved" the issue according to Langley, so where does Langley stand now?
"My top four are Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia," Langley told Scout over the weekend. "Alabama is still me leader right now."
The 6-foot-1, 188 pound cornerback out of Marietta (Ga.) Kell once thought he would commit to someone in June, but now he is set on committing in August.
Does UGA still have a shot?
"Georgia was never out of it. We settled the issue about a week after it came up and they were back in it. I have talked to them a little since then, but they were never completely out of it."
When the issue was resolved, it did not push UGA back up his list either.
"I do like them more now after figuring out what was going on, but It doesn't bring them any further up my list," said the four-star corner. "I just have to keep looking around, talking to coaches, and trying to figure out which school is the right one for me."
It has nothing to do with Langley, but the Dawgs offered another defensive back out of Kell on Saturday.
Quincy Mauger was impressive at the Mark Richt Camp and he earned an offer from the Bulldogs. Could this help the Dawgs?
"Me and Quincy are very good friends and this definitely gives me more to think about with Georgia.
"I would love to play with Quincy, me and him have talked about playing together, and I think we will be visiting Georgia together sometime soon. We have not set it up yet, but I could see us in Athens to visit with the coaches soon."
Mauger is a 6-foot, 200 pound safety that can cover and hit and he has offers from Furman, Iowa State, Marshall, Navy, Ohio, and UCF along with Georgia.

Darius Paige, three-star defensive tackle from Washington High School in Pensacola, Fla., camped at Florida State this past weekend. He performed at a high level and earned an offer from the Seminoles. The Alabama commitment talked about the camp and latest offer.
quote:
"It was a shock to me," said Darius Paige. "One of my coaches told me about the offer. It’s good. I like them, but I am sticking with Alabama. I may go back for a visit, but I don’t know about that yet."
Paige talked with Alabama secondary coach Jeremy Pruitt when he returned home from the camp in Tallahassee. He shared some of his thoughts about the camp.
"I liked how I went up against some of the best offensive linemen," he said. "I feel like I did really well against them.
"The coaches were telling me how explosive and fast I was at coming off the ball. They liked that. They told me I do a great job using my hands."
Paige remains solid with his commitment to the Tide.

Roderick Taylor, offensive tackle from Calloway High School in Jackson, Miss., is one of the top 2014 prospects in the Southeast. Taylor has camped in Tuscaloosa twice in the past couple of weeks including Saturday at the Tide’s OL/DL camp.
quote:
“I thought it was good camp,” said Roderick Taylor. “They had good players out there. It was nice competition. I felt like I did good out there.
“Coach Stoutland is a good coach. I like the way he teaches you. He takes his time to show you how it’s done and the right way to do it. He told me he liked me and I was a good player.”
Taylor received good news from the Tide's head coach following his dominant performance.
“I spoke with coach Saban after the camp,” he said. “He said he likes me. I am a good player. He instantly offered me. It felt real good to get an offer from them.”
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman talked about his interest in the Crimson Tide.
”I like the coaches,” Taylor said. “I like the facilities. I like the academics over there. I really like it a lot overall.”
Taylor also has scholarship offers from Ole Miss and Mississippi State. He plans to attend the LSU camp in July. He does not have a favorite school at this time.

Greg Gilmore, four-star defensive tackle from South View High School in Hope Mills, N.C., was one of the top prospects in Tuscaloosa this weekend. Gilmore arrived at the University of Alabama on Friday and worked out with the coaching staff Saturday at the OL/DL camp.
quote:
"The trip to Alabama was good," said Greg Gilmore. "It was real good. I had a good camp and learned a lot of good stuff. I met with coach Rumph. I hung out with him most of the time.
"We talk all the time. We talk about other stuff than just football. He asked what I think about Alabama. I toured the facilities. He showed me some different stuff like the coaches offices and stuff they are adding.
"Coach Saban coached me up in the one-on-ones. Coach Rumph taught me a lot of passing rushing moves. They are good coaches. They are nice to you off the field. On the field they are all about business. That’s the type of coaches I have. I can relate to the constructive criticism. I am coachable.”
The visit to Tuscaloosa really shifted Gilmore's thoughts on the 2011 BCS National Champions.
"Alabama is a great school," he said. "From not having any interest in Alabama to how I feel about them now I guess I just forgot about them. Maybe it was the depth chart. The camp really refreshed my feelings about them. It’s a great place, and they put you in the NFL. It’s really a great overall place.
"They are in my top five, probably top three. They are tied for No. 2 with Florida. LSU is still No. 1. Clemson is also in there.
“I was going to make my decision early. I may take my time with this one. My dad likes LSU. My mom likes Florida and Alabama. I will probably go back to those three schools again with my parents. I’ll just have to see how I feel. I still could decide early."

What kind of a chance do we have to land these recruits and what are your thoughts on them? IMO we need some more Stud D-Lineman the most:
1- K Beckwith DE out of LA?
2- D'Asian DE out of FL?
3- Montravius Adams DT out of GA?
4- Mathew Thomas OLB out of South FL?
5- A. Conner DB out of MS?
6- V. Bell DB out of GA?
7- R. Seals-Jones WR out of TX? Didn't he decommit from TX recently and is looking at Bama now? We could use another stud WR with last name Jones :)
I'd like to finish out our class with all those guys :)
