Thats what hurt about Philon if you ask me. People wont agree but he was better than Kirven and Tomlinson when healthy. He wouldve been a perfect fit for the position that Gentry played. You dont find to many kids that have his size that can run a 4.7-4.8

I think you'll be pleasently surprised with Tomlinson

Not doubting his game but im just saying that people see the ratings from sites and act all happy. Im not angry just think that Philon is better than both and fit us better. Thats all.

another in 09 was Will Lowery, I remember seeing him at HHS thinking that guy won't play D1 and he started at OLB that year
Meant Corey Reamer on this one as our starting OLB, but Lowery is a good example too

Nothing to do with ratings I agree, but Tomlinson is a nasty player in the inside, better motor, bigger and strong enough to add on weight and be an inside/outside guy
Kirven is tall athletic end guy with better technique and bigger size than Philon, very similar to Pagan, who played a good bit this yr
IMHO Kirven is closer to Philon skill set, Tomlinson is a different type player, and comparing the 2 Kirven is better for our D scheme, I honestly think Philon will do a good bit better at Arky, he would've been situational pass rusher in a 4 man front, Kirven has athleticism, strength and length to play either end in a 3 or 4 man front, just how I see it, this 25 limit SIGNED rule is gonna get worse and worse every year to the prospects trying to get signed

I agree with you about Philon. I was much more impressed with his film than both Kirven and Tomlinson. He was a mean son of a bitch on the field.
I think in the end his height is what hurt him. He was maybe 6 feet tall. The other two give us much more size. It's all over now, but I wish we had made room for Philon. How Caleb Gulledge got a spot over him is a head scratcher, and I've been a Gulledge supporter throughout.

I think it had to do with his injury, every guy we offered a grayshirt to had been injured.

Well, Justin Taylor missed all but one game with his injury. Philon played the entire regular season plus the playoffs with his injury and he was dominant. I truly believe it had more to do with his size than anything.

Let's talk O-Line recruiting for a minute.
If we get Grant Hill as expected, we should be done at Guard right? He and Bozeman would fill those needs.
Since the only elite OT from Alabama (Golson) doesn't want anything to do with UA, it appears we are gonna have to go out of state for tackles.
We all know the potential candidates (Tunsil, etc.) but does anyone know of any potential JUCO players we may be interested in? I don't think Greene or Hill will be ready to take Flukers place when he leaves and we need tackles badly. We have more inside depth than outside, obviously.
We can't afford to be short on the outside. Thoughts?

I think the Juco guys will break out during the summer. As far as OT's we are in the top 3 for Tunsil and Bosch, and the top 2 for Tuley-Tillman. Santa Marina is most likely a Bama-LSU battle as well so we have a lot of options at OT.

Are we sure Fluker will leave? I mean he'll be a redshirt JR this year, so it's a possibility. But if he doesn't we've wasted a year of a Juco. I'd need inside info to know what fluker's plans are.

In the Hill article on Tidesport, he makes it sound like he's being recruited as an OT. I think it also exposes his HC as the same person telling Toney to wait it out.
I think Shepherd will be a good RT after Fluker, who could leave after this season(he's on track to graduate this December I believe). That would mean 2 years for Shepherd at RT if my math is right.
I think where he can't touch Fluker's athleticism, he makes up for it with more experience as an O-lineman...

The biggest reason he stayed was so he could graduate, which per him, will be in December.
I think he should stay to get another year in playing OL, but he could make the jump. Don't quote me on that, as apparently I was connected to spreading the rumor Fluker may leave this year

Who is the Florida DB visiting for JR Day this Saturday, TIA, I don't have a BOL sub:
FL DB coming to Jr Day

I think Fluker leaves. He's been apart of 2 NC teams, even though he only played in one.
Shepard is a good player, but far from elite. I see him playing the role of Drew Davis. Being forced into action because we don't have anyone else capable of playing SEC football. Hopefully, CyKo can lock down the LT spot for the next two years. However, we need to build some serious depth there.
We build LBer depth like it's nothing, it's time we apply that strategy to the offensive line. I mean, our starting center next year will most likely be Barrett Jones, who won the Outland Award for his performance at Tackle.
Offensive line recruiting has been weak over the last few years, the 2012 class especially.

I just saw the thread. He doesn't have an offer and is apparently rated as a 2-star prospect. The next Junior Day is supposed to be the "big" one with hundreds of players coming. I wouldn't take much stock into who is coming yet, but will wait to see who comes away with offers.

We'll probably hear some more names in the next few days leading up to the weekend.

BOL will probably give a comprehensive list of visitors as well.
