I wish we would do something like this. I have never understood why we don't. UGA and UF both have something like that too.

I actually think it has really helped us create some good classes. The recruits all seem to love it. I know people made fun of Auburn for it being a gimmick, but I think it has turned into a solid event.

The limos were a gimmick. There are a lot of schools that have certain weekends where they try to get in a lot of their top recruits though. It can only help with recruiting. Get the kids in, have them make friends, and try to get them to all come play together at your school.

That wasn't Big Cat Weekend stuff though.

I would think Bama would do it just because of the camaraderie it builds. I get that they have #1 classes, but it is more then that. IMO

In a way I agree. It's corny, and kinda hokey. To me it's kinda the samething as UGA's "Blackout"/Dreamteam, which says to me is we dont have enough going on for us so we have to come up with some gimmick to generate motivation/interest in what we're doing. In a way it's pathetic. I will say that it does come off appealing to some 17-18 year olds.

If our recruiting starts to suffer, then I'll ask questions. It hasnt.

Uhhh, ya think? It was about as sleazy as you can get.

Not only was it a limo from the early 90's(could have atleast rented something from the 21st century), but they all were wearing the same sleazy outfit. Anybody remember that pic they took? It looked like a bowling team, or your local used car salesman from the 1992. I honestly thought the pics were photoshopped at first, it was ridiculous.

Specialty uniforms, big attention events, even simple changes made "back in the day" like adding names on the back of player's jerseys..appealing to 17-18 year old kids is kind of the point.

The game is to get the tools you need on campus and using the methods you have to reach that goal is a good thing so long as it stays within the rules. At Alabama we talk about tradition and success, we provide support and facilities, we claim a strong staff with an outstanding resume of production. In some time periods all of that works because the success is within the short time span that appeals to the memory of those 17-18 year old kids.

I don't understand how calling something some other team uses to appeal to the same age group of kids as gay. You work with what you have to garner the attention of your target market. BCW works for Auburn, the day may come at some point where Alabama will need to find a new hook. I hope that hook will have an appeal to those kids as the BCW seems to have.

Exactly. Recruiting is all about selling your program to a bunch of ADHD afflicted 17 year olds with the attention span of a gnat. You have to do whatever it takes. What we are doing right now is working. In large part because we are winning and putting our starters in the NFL. You have to always try to stay a step ahead of your competition though.

I never said that.

I could definitely see how programs that lack in success have to resort to that.

Maybe...if we absolutely tank in the near future. What we sell is history, championships, rings, etc. Other programs have to do that because, well that dont have anything else. Did you even see the pictures of when the AU coaches took the obviously dated box limo around AL? It was like they were attempting a joke.

Take a look at the recruiting rankings over the years, moreso the recruits that have gone onto big things from both UA/AU. The biggest thing is to factor in the actual success BCW has had, and the recruits that it brought in. If I remember correctly a lot of the BCW commits arent the ideal type, i.e. Dwyer. Sure they might have had a good ranking, but there's a lot more to it than that. Like I said, just look at the rankings between the two teams and tell me if we need that.

Look, it's not like I'm some old fart who cant get with the times. I just turned 27, and I think that there's many things that could be updated in our program(one being the music in BDS), but I feel like the most ideal recruits see through the gimmicks. Some dont, but I dont think it's worth compromising the brand name. Once our recruiting starts to suffer then I'll reavalluate my stance. Just my opinion.....

True Auburn seems to get recruits who are easily influenced by foolishness. They recruit kids better than parents because kids are more apt to fall for blow jobs and I phones.

Not saying Auburn doesn't get any high character, family oriented kids, but a few parents have ripped the AU staff for their tactics.

Lattimore's mom and the kid from LA grandmother mentioned they got a lot of lies in.

It was not my intent to imply that you were the one that said that (or I would have included it in what I quoted). It was however said shortly before your post.

No, you are not an "old fart" but many here would suggest that I am. As an old fart, I have seen the up and down cycles several times. I saw the recruiting first hand "back in the day". I have seen when our talk about tradition and success meant nothing to 17-18 year old kids that did not grow up as Alabama fans because they had never seen it. I saw Pat Dye kick the arse of a few coaches on the recruiting trail because what he was selling was fresh and what we were selling was memories that might appeal to their parents but meant nothing to them.
Now we are inthe third up-cycle of my experience as an Alabama fan and this up cyce is every bit as srong as the one I was born into. I am also experienced enough to understand that I will likely live long enough to see more mistakes made that will send us back to the middle of the pack. Our advantage, we know what the wind in our face on top feals like and the old farts (when that happens) will fork over the cash needed to fund the screams of unacceptable that will come from the younger generations.

Good job on the update, tipsy or not. You even have a couple of names on there as targets that I really don't know anything about.

Some of them were leftovers from the original OP that I wasn't sure I should take off.

There is probably someone..., at least a JC OL that needs to be added I know.
