Class of 2014 defensive end Da'Shawn Hand is a freak.
The 6-foot-4, 237-pound defender from Woodbridge Senior High School in Virginia runs a 4.6 40-time and has already drawn comparisons to the No. 1 player in the class of 2013, Robert Nkemdiche.
Alabama coaches have certainly noticed Hand's potential and have already began recruiting him hard.
"I know Lance Thompson has come in several times," Hand's head coach Kevin Smith said. "We've talked, and he has emailed me several times, and Da'Shawn stays on a very good level with him."
Hand recently talked with UA coaches, who told him if were to commit to Alabama, they would look to unleash his potential at the next level.
"All the coaches are cool guys," Hand said. "They want me at either as an outside linebacker or defensive end. They said they want to push my limits."
The talented defender said he does not really care what position he is assigned to at the college level, so long as he gets to do one of his favorite things - manhandle opposing quarterbacks.
"I like how aggressive they are (at Alabama)," Hand said. "I like being aggressive. The lineman, they are just amazing. They just have a very nasty attitude, and that's the kind of defense that I like."
High school athletes like Hand do not come around too often. Smith said it is hard to recall a recruit as gifted as Hand during his time both playing and coaching football.
"I played at Garfield High School with Ahmad Brooks who is with the 49ers right now," Smith said. "He covered sideline to sideline pretty much like Hand does. He is not as freakish of an athlete as Da'Shawn Hand is. In my time in this area here, he is probably the best athletic kid equipped as a specimen that I've seen."
On top of being a force on the field, Hand is a leader off of it as well. Despite being only a sophomore, Hand has served as a leader by example for his teammates.
"He's actually our best leader," Smith said. "He's at every weight-room session, we have a coach that comes around 4:00 in the afternoon, and he stays late and does ladder and agility drills with him. He tries to go to every camp to try to improve and keep working."
Hand plans to visit Tuscaloosa in July for one of Alabama's summer camps and would also like to come back to visit again during the season to get a feel of the University. Hand said he is already well familiar with all of Alabama's football traditions, but would like to see the academic side of the school to better evaluate it.
Alabama recently received a commitment from Ashburn, Va., defensive end Jonathan Allen Monday. Hand has played the fellow Virginia athlete on the field and has bumped into him a few times off of it as well.
"We have scrimmaged them every year, so I talk to him then," Hand said. "He's a real cool guy. I heard he committed, but I haven't got a chance to talk with him yet."
Hand said he will most likely talk to Allen again in the near future to find out more about Alabama.
Hand said it is too early in the recruiting process to name a list of leaders, but he is working on evaluating schools and should have a group together by the end of the year. On top of his visit to Alabama in July, he also plans to visit the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech over the summer.
"In two years, if Alabama is still on top, they will definitely be high on the list, I would say." Smith said.

Holy shite that class would be epic. I count 9-10 potential 5-stars when the player rankings are completely updated.

Me too. I think he likes us more, but staying close to home to play with his friends will win out in the end.

Can't remember if this was posted or not.

Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy defensive back Jalen Ramsey has a lot going on these days. Earlier this week, Ramsey won the Tennessee state championship in the decathlon. On Friday he’s favored to win the state championship in the 200, the 400, the long jump and the 110 meter hurdles. But a phone call on Wednesday still managed to stand out in this busy week.
That call was the one on which he was offered a scholarship by Alabama head coach Nick Saban.
“It was nice talking to him,” Ramsey said on the eve of his state championship meet. “He’s one of the best coaches anywhere in the nation right now so it was cool talking to him. It was a blessing.
“We talked about how he liked my size, he wanted my film and wanted to see me and see where I could play. He thinks I could play safety or cornerback.”
The Crimson Tide was already on Ramsey’s radar prior to the offer. He was considering getting down to Tuscaloosa this summer to try to earn an offer had he not received one. Now that the offer has come, Ramsey still plans to see what it’s all about in Tuscaloosa.
“It was good,” he said of the offer. “They’re the No. 1 team in the nation and they just came off a BCS Championship win. Most people say that’s the biggest one because they came off a championship win and it is big coming from a coach like Coach Saban.
“I’m definitely interested. Basically, like any other school, I need to get down there and see. Everybody has presumptions but I’m going to have to go down there and see for myself so I can see what the differences might actually be.”
In addition to an Alabama visit this summer, Ramsey has tentative plans to visit some other schools, mentioning Auburn, Ole Miss and Mississippi State as some possibilities.
Ramsey knows of two schools that he will visit for sure because the plane tickets have been booked: Washington and USC. He will also be camping at The Opening and the Five-Star Challenge.
Though there is no decision coming in the near future, Ramsey does have a good idea as to what he’s looking for in a program.
“Playing time, early playing time, that’s the key,” he said. “Academics is key and a good supporting staff and an administration that will help me after my football time is over with.”
Ramsey is rated as the No. 7 cornerback in the country, the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee and No. 67 player overall.

Then Bama's 2nd team would deserve it's own football schedule.

We have good evidence to support this statement.

Landon Collins very well was going to pick Alabama anyways, but the GF made him signed sealed and delivered. Walker may be a little different with friends, but boy does this look mighty similar.

I just looked back at the 10 class. Not great. Lots of guys who are not here anymore.

The 10 class was definitely the weakest of our last 5 classes. Mosely was definitely the best of the group.

It's OK to have one bad class. Having two in a row is when it becomes problematic.

Milliner and Hubbard will have something to say about that.
