Top 100 LB Alex Anzalone of Wyomissing (Pa.) tweeted that he has a video conference set up with Nick Saban for this evening and that it "should be eventful to say the least." Anzalone committed to Ohio State earlier this spring and had a well-documented decommitment just a few weeks later. Anzalone received an offer from UA in February and noted that the Tide mentioned recruiting him as an H-Back at that time. We'll follow up with him to see how the talk with Saban goes.

The Scout rankings were updated on May 15 and some new names moved into the Scout300, some prospects moved into the Top 100, and you can get the latest here.
quote:
New to the Scout 100
Demarcus Walker moved into the Scout100 in May and it was after Scout saw him compete at the NIKE Football Training Camp in Orlando, Fla. that we knew he would be in there.
He has gained around 25 pounds and he is not at 6-feet, 4-inches tall, and weighing around 280 pounds. He has not lost any of his quickness and he is playing with a lot more strength and better leverage. He could continue to rise this fall. He is currently sitting at no. 70.
Others who moved into the Top 100 were Larenz Bryant (no. 92), Josh McNeil (no. 97), and Kelsey Griffin (no. 100).
Bryant is an outside linebacker out of Vance in Charlotte, N.C. and he was extremely impressive at the NIKE Football Training Camp in Charlotte recently. He showed great lateral movement, the ability to drop into coverage, and great range at close to 210 pounds.
McNeil is a tight end out of Hillside in Durham, N.C. and he has emerged as one of the best after only one season playing football. At 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, he is extremely athletic, he can run, he can catch, and he has a very high ceiling.
Griffin is a very strong interior defensive lineman out of Mill Creek in Hoschton, Ga. He plays with great leverage, shows great initial punch, and his hands are very active.
In and Out of the Scout300
When prospects move into the Scout300, others must move out.
There was not a lot of change here, but four new names added that fourth star beside their names.
Melvin Jones, a middle linebacker out of Lake Charles (La.) Washington/Marion Magnet moved up to no. 174 in the country. He is a big linebacker with good instincts.
Offensive tackle Shamire DeVine is a 6-foot-6, 335 pound Peach State prospect (East Point) that showed he could play with the big boys this spring. He dominated multiple camps after dropping a few pounds and getting stronger. He is no. 200.
Asiantii Woulard is a quarterback with a lot of natural talent. He only has played that position for a year, but he has improved a lot since the end of last season. The 6-foot-4, 215 pound signal caller out of Winter Park (Fla.) has a very strong arm, he looks much more comfortable in the pocket, and he has a lot of upside. He is now ranked at no. 235.
Jackson, Ga. defensive lineman Jay Woods has added close to 30 pounds and that has helped him take his game to another level. He has very active hands, he could play inside or outside on the next level depending on the type of front that school runs, and he moved into the Scout300 at no. 299.
Joe Fennell, Marquez Grayson, Deon Johnson, and Will Likely all moved out of the Scout300.
Quick Hitters
McGill-Toolen (Ala.) athlete Jason Smith moved from quarterback to wide receiver this cycle. He is a play-maker with big offers.
Florida commitment Caleb Brantley moved into the top 200 this cycle. He is not rated the no. 172 prospect in America.
Running back Alex Collins made a move up to no. 161. He is committed to Miami, but still looking around.
Ashton Shumpert was moved from running back to safety. The Fulton (Miss.) native sits at no. 157.

Raekwon McMillan ('14 LB):
quote:
A step, he says, that involves getting out of the shadow of the current No. 2 player in the nation, Alabama-bound Reuben Foster.
"I am tired of being in his shadow," McMillan said. "When people write about me they compare me to him. Just because I am younger doesn't mean I can't compete with him and it doesn't mean I can't be better already.
"He is a beast and an awesome player but I am not the guy in the background, I am not the next Rueben Foster. I want to make sure that is known."
McMillan said that he and Foster have participated in two camps together, once at a Georgia camp and once at a NIKE camp, and that while the two are not friends they were friendly.
"We talked," McMillan said. "He was a good person, in my opinion, but me being behind him in every article is getting a little old."

He isnt going to come to Bama if Foster does.

Think we can pull in McMillan next year, since we are getting Reuben this year?

The one good thing is that he will be getting all the attention this time next year and maybe that will change his outlook, but I wouldn't count on it.

Since decommitting from Ohio State earlier this month, Wyomissing (Pa.) linebacker Alex Anzalone has been busy getting back into the recruiting game.
On Wednesday evening the defending National Champions came calling, as Anzalone spoke with Alabama head coach Nick Saban via Skype.
"He seemed like a good dude," said Anzalone. "He talked about the whole program and how they run things."
The two spoke for roughly 45 minutes, Anzalone said. The Crimson Tide offered the 6-foot-3, 231-pound rising senior back in February but only recently came back into contact.
"Video chatting with Coach Saban was very productive for my parents and I," he said. "He talked about what Alabama has to offer a prospect like me both academically and athletically. He said that I can go in and play whichever position I'd like, either linebacker or H-back."
The Crimson Tide found their way back onto Anzalone's list, which also includes Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Stanford and USC. The four-star prospect said that he and his family are aiming to visit Tuscaloosa in July.
Anzalone is the No. 77 prospect in the Class of 2012 Top247 and the No. 4 outside linebacker in the country. He earned an invited to 'The Opening' in Oregon this summer after a standout performance at the Baltimore NIKE Football Training Camp this weekend.

I hope we offer J.Cook I want him badly after watching extensive film, he's a very rangy CB who could play S with GREAT ball skills and lockdown in man VASTLY underrated
Is this the kid from spanish fort? Guys on the radio down here in mobile were talking him up saying DJ Johnson/Cook could be a Julio/Lester type situation where coaches are down all the time checking out the guy everyone knows about and can't help but notice the other guy too. I'd imagine if bama offered then he would commit on the spot
Posted on 5/17/12 at 11:00 am to Riseupfromtherubble
yup but actually if you watch film of him IMHO at this stage in his development, he is a lot farther along than Lester was and has a lot higher ceiling, as a CB he is lockdown city Cook island in man, gonna be a GREAT player in college, just hope it's @ Bama. Also if he gets an offer at camp he'll likely commit on the spot

Interview with CB's OC:
al.com
quote:
(When did he begin to develop into the QB he is today?)
"What people don't understand about him is he's a sub-4.5 guy. Legitimately sub-4.5. This kid can fly and he can just flat hammer the ball. He can throw it as good and hard as anybody.
"We were down by 6 in a 30-degree game with four seconds to go. He threw it 67 yards on a rope and hit our guy in stride. The DB started backpeddling because he didn't think he could throw it that far.
"We run a college-style offense, he's got to make a lot of calls at the line of scrimmage, he's got to do a lot of things with the football as far as changing plays at the line and all that kind of stuff. We kind of prepped him to play college football. He's 6-foot-3, runs a sub-4.5 40 and has a cannon for an arm and, oh by the way, has a 3.8 grade point average."
(What attracted him to Alabama?)
"Nussmeier and those guys run a pro-style gig. He went on a trip, LSU, Alabama, Auburn and Florida. Loved all the places but just felt like he really liked Alabama. He liked the fact that the fact they're going to run it under center for a fair amount.
"His dream is to play pro football someday. A lot of it was about being under center, running a pro style. He didn't care where he went. It was really interesting. I said it was a long way ... and as you can imagine the local schools wanted him. Honestly, he's like 'I don't care. I might as well play the best football I can and see if I can play at that level.'
"Really, really, really respects coach Saban. Really likes Nussmeier. Nussmeier knows his stuff, played the position. He got along quite well with coach Nussmeier."
(Did the relationship with Nussmeier begin while Nussmeier was at Washington?)
"They kind of knew each other from Washington. (Washington coach Steve Sarkisian), when he was at USC, had a couple of my players, Stanley Havili and some of these guys. Sark kind of knew who we were as far as a football team and the type of players we put out. There was a relationship there. They actually went to Washington on a trip and looked at that place, too."
(Was Bateman always mechanically sound as a thrower?)
"He threw a little bit funny (early in his career). You could tell he had speed in his arm. He kind of came from different angles and stuff like that. He just does such a great job at making changes ... I don't have to go back in and keep reminding him to make the changes. Some kids I have to sit and repeat myself for three years. This kid, you make a change and tell him 'This is where I want your elbow, this is where I want your feet.' He's so intuitive and he's such a fast learner that he makes the change and moves on. i think he's got the slickest, quickest move I've seen this year out of anybody."
